Sprite McOne

My first sprite. What do you think? Should I continue? Please comment!

EDIT:
I have gotten more done!

The hair seems a little bit weird, but that's probably because the shading is not very visible. The shirt has the same problem.

I like the pants, but the scarf falls behind them sort of weird, so it looks like you messed up or something. Also, the waist is to straight, but a belt or a curviness on the jeans might fix that.

The shoes are adorable :)

Overall, it's a pretty decent first try. There are just a few little things to work out, and it'll be great :)

O.o the shading is more visible zoomed in
thank you for your critique, I'll post an updated version later when i fix it up.Glad you like the shoes ^_^

Hmm. You need to work on the shading a bit more. Try using 3-5 different shades. It'll make the sprite stand out more.

EDIT: I looked at it closer and saw what the problem is. You have many shades which is good, but it's not contrasted enough. I'll reshade it myself to show u what I mean.

Now notice in mine how the shading stands out? The entire sprite is outlined with a tint of color thats a bit darker than the rest to help it stand out. Now granted everyone has their own spriting style, but this is just what I'D advise. Nobody's perfect at spriting, cuz' it's so very vague to what "perfect" is. Keep working at it and eventually you'll develop your own style that really sticks out.

I don't want to rebuff Johnny, but I think you should focus less on how many shades you have and more on shadow/highlight placement plus colors. If you remember Tales of Phantasia, the number of shades was very limited on sprites, but it worked beautifully because of the actual shading.

Well, I've never played ToP but i will look up some screens. Ty for input.

@Berseker: What actually is pillow shading (You're confusing a noob)?

EDIT: I see what you mean, but if your wondering the highlights on the pants, that's just the pants coloring and not any shading. The actual shading is just darkening on the pants.

Pillow shading is shading with no purpose or light source, just having shade to make it look... shaded lol.

It also is darker around the edges and gets lighter as it gets more into the middle, which means that it doesn't look anything like a shirt, but a pillow.

Don't follow Johnny's advice on this one ;)
