Spider-Man Film Series to be Rebooted A.K.A Marvel on Crack

so unimaginative.

If they take the drama and angst out of Spider-Man all that's left is a wise-cracking idiot
and you do know that there are multiple interpretations and he evolves differently depending on the writer, right? you keep acting as if this is gonna use the old spiderman films as a foundation, and that just isn't the case.

basically all your objections seem to be that "NOOOOO IF THEY TAKE X OUT OF THE FORMULA OF THE EXISTING MOVIES THEY WOULD SUCK" and my response is in two parts

1. they will not be relying on the formula of the original movies. that is the purpose of a reboot. spider-man as a character has more potential than you give him credit for, and tobey macguire's take on his is by far the weakest interpretation I've seen.

2. they already did suck

LOL WHAT

OBV THIS IS WHY ALOT OF PEOPLE LOVE SPIDER MAN SINCE HES A JOKESTER SUPER HERO, THATS WHAT MAKES HIM WHAT HE IS, AMONG THE STORY ARCS

I LIKE THAT ASPECT PERSONALLY

Yeah sure, there are multiple interpretations but that's the same with every good hero, but let's take a look at Superman, do you really want to see 30mins of film before he even appears again? Do we need the whole Krypton backstory? No, we don't hit home with Superman, no need to re-tread old footsteps of Kal-El. In the same respect, Batman covered little beyond the death of his parents, so Begins covered his training. And through all of these reboots and remakes, we usually know one thing, a good amount of time has passed or the content of the series has drifted so far from it's original basis and has lost so much money lately, Superman IV, Batman & Robin e.t.c. That they gave it a break and chilled out to return a new.

Did any of these happen with Spider-Man, no. It got the origin story well told and personally I think it struck a good balance between the long origin story (Superman/Batman Begins) and the quick straight into the action story (Batman '89).

Point is, that not enough time has passed really since the first movie to go rebooting. It's been LESS THAN A DECADE! I mean there was this much time between Batman & Robin and Batman Begins, but at least there there were no movies in between.

Most importantly perhaps from a business stand-point this doesn't make sense. It's going to alienate and confuse the audience. The previous three Spider-Man movies have made close to $3billion combined. Are we really about to say that they were unsuccessful movies, no. They were not, Spider-Man 3 (or in a few people's opinions the whole series) might have sucked but it was still successful. Spider-Man 4, if made into a good tighter movie and given the short relief between movies will probably break the $1 billion mark. Can you honestly tell me that no matter how popular Spider-Man is that a reboot would make as much money? It won't I doubt it'll even go beyond $700m and yeah you can say, well they sacrificed some money for better quality movie. Bullshit, I work in this industry and I know that is never the case especially when it's like $200million and up, which is not "some money", it's a hell of a lot.

Sorry guys, mawk, I understand what you're trying to say, I really do, but I just think that it's too soon to reboot. I'm not asking for Spider-Man 4, I just think that even if the trilogy of $800m+ movies was as bad as ten Transformers 2's. It's still far too soon to reboot a franchise that is so successful. Whether we might think it was a good film or not doesn't matter, 1 & 2 were both critically and commercially successful movies. 3 was commercially successful at the very least and in some aspects critically too.

I just need to say, this is at least better news than the April Fool's joke they tried to pass off last year: the guy from Twilight (the sparkly one) was supposed to replace Tobey.

I actually liked the Raimi/Maguire run. Really did. I don't mind a reboot though. It's not like I haven't seen Spiderman's origin redone to death already. One more couldn't kill me. Really. Especially if they hope to write the story to have some kind of connection to the Avengers movie they're trying to put together. That'd be another origin movie, for sure, but I don't mind. I'd like them to make a movie about a different arc for once, but that seems highly implausible. /marvelwhore

He punches by making little cat claws with his fingers.

That's not a joke. That's honestly how he fights. That and leaping around like an idiot.
