Special Text Characters

Hey there!
I have the English version of RPG Maker VX, and I noticed something peculiar.
You see I was naming my items and skills and everything appeared fine, however when I went to test my game, I saw that some of the letter and names where completely gone! 
So looking into the matter, I noticed that anything using special characters such as é, or in a different language (in my case Japanese), it would be replaced with a square.
So my question is:
Is there any way to support special characters and foreign languages in RPGMVX?

I can use special characters just fine?  Try changing the in-game font to something that allows them.
