Sound Check

Hello everyone,

I've been experimenting with a combination of FL Studio, Audacity, a Guitar, and a Microphone to see what kinds of different songs/sounds I can come up with before I try to write and record a full song. I am going to post some of those experiments here for you guys to listen to, and I will call this little series 'Sound Check' Whenever I get a new Sound Check I will post it here for you guys to look at.

I would like to here feedback on everything-- sound quality, digital instruments, actual instruments, vocals, whatever you can think to nit-pick, please do so.

Sound Check 01
This one uses FL Studio's FLP plugin for drums, my vocals, and Audacity's Echo effect.

Either your voice is really nasal or you have a crappy microphone; I'm betting on the second.  The echo also doesn't help matters.  It sounds like you are in a used car commercial for a local oldies radio station.

Yeah, the echo was just a little experiment.

As for the nasally voice, that actually happened when I exported it to MP3. I've never had a problem like this before, but for some reason when I used Audacity to export an MP3 this time, it came out sounding really crappy. Also, my mic isn't great so that didn't help either XD

The Audacity thing sounds like a bitrate problem, that's happened to me before too.  If you go to Edit->Preferences, the first tab should be called "File Formats."  At the bottom there is a section called "Mp3 Export Setup" and you can set the mp3 bitrate there.  Try setting it to 192, which is standard for most mp3s.  Usually when this is set low, the quality is awful :)

Ahh, great thanks. I saw that the bitrate was, by default, 64 Kb/s, which I know is too low but I didn't know where to change it.
