some help with character sets?

Hi guys;

I'm tearing my hair out trying to figure out how to work character sets.  I can get a great sprite sheet (for example, a PNG set of Sora or Setzer or something) online, but after I load it into the material base, the "square" that selects around the specific sprite (i.e. in choosing a graphic for an event, etc.) doesn't line up properly.  For example:

I think I'm confusing myself.  Anybody have any handy links to some tileset tutorials?  Or perhaps you could share some advice as to what I'm doing wrong?

If I edit this image in a basic program (i.e. MS paint or something), can it be fixed?

Thanks for the help.

Try in photoshop. You can turn the grid on, 32 x 1 and then have it snap to grid. Then you'll need to re-size it. Not sure if this is %100 though I'm still new to this.

All right, take your sprite sheet.  Put it in MSPaint.  Go to "Attributes" and find out how big it is.  Divide that by however many sprites are there.  Then, take 4 sprites from each section to make it 4x4, with each square as big as what you figured out (for instance, if each sprite turns out to be 40x40, you'll need a total area of 160x160).

You want the sprites to be as follows:  Standing, stepping w/ right foot, standing, stepping w/ left foot.  The top line is facing down, next is facing left, then right, then up.

Photoshop is handy , but ther other programmes to that can be used in the case you don't have photoshop .
Paint.net is of them as far as i remeber (using ps so long i can't remeber well).

Actually, while we're at it, I'm having the same "white background" problem with my Battler graphic; however, there's no way to select the transparency when you import it into the materialbase.  Suggestions?

No double-posting, please. Use the modify button next time.

Anyway, try editing the image with Photoshop. Select the white background and press "Delete." Make sure to save it as a .png, or it won't keep the transparency.
