Some General Questions

First off: RMXP vs RMVX - What are the major differences between these two programs and which would you recommend me using? The type of game that I am going to be working on will be heavily story based fantasy. I would prefer using the side view battlers, but the issues that I was having with RMXP a few years back was that I could not figure out how to have new monsters with those side animations. The reason that the front view "pictures" worked the best was that I could always just introduce my own new monsters instead of the games default ((which weren't enough)). What I really liked about RMVX was the fact that it had a world map feature, which is something I really need.

Character Switching: In my game, you will be starting out with your one character. Throughout the adventure, you meet new characters, but can only have X amount in your party. Is it difficult to write a script that allows the player to switch between characters when on the World Map or when they're at an Inn?

Character Customization: At the beginning of the game, I want the player to be able to choose a class that they would like to be. Warrior, Thief, Mage, etc. How can I go about doing this?

Lighting: When entering a cave/dungeon, is it possible to darken the outside of the "screen" so that it appears to be darker?

Thank you for taking the time to review this. I appreciate any feedback.

Have you looked at the event commands? >.< Everything there can be done with events. There is even an event command called "Screen Tone".

With the skill choosing thing, all you need is switches, show choices, text boxes, change class, and conditional branch commands. You need to read tutorials so that you know how to do these things.

There is know point having the question asked over and over again. :cute:

Added detail: If you right-click on a game command, it will tell you what it does. Go and do this for every single command in the game-- every event command, every option in every event command. There's a lot of cool stuff hidden in there, if you can figure out how to use it.

Consider all the things you can do with just Control Variable and Conditional Branch alone...

Ah yes, I forgot about those. (Hi Unka Josh! It's been awhile!)
Those two commands are the main building blocks of RMXP, but you should look into variables after you've got everything else down.

Sorry if I sounded harsh earlier. Just try to find tutorials that will benefit you. Why, even Aindra's RPG Maker VX school will benefit you; it's helpful even if you use RMXP! Most of the concepts are the same. Or similar anyways...

Alright, thanks! I guess I will just have to practice a few things until I can figure it out. I just remember being VERY frustrated with switches etc. later on in game ((The last time I tried making one))

It got to the point where there was an event that occurred in the game where an entire town changed. I had to move NPC's and lock doors etc. etc. etc. and the entire transition was a pain in the ass to figure out and make properly.

Thanks again!

(Hi, Kiriashi!)

Hey, here's a shortcut on the town:

Make a second map that's a copy of the first, and make all the changes to it that you want.

Then just change the Transfer Party Events that take you to that map.

Can't believe I didn't even think of that! Instead of switching things around, just copy the map and make the changes... BLEH.

Haha, so many little things.

Thanks once again! Will continue to practice.
