[SOLVED] Movement is broken in-game (both XP and VX)

I had RPG Maker XP for ages.
I went back to it today to try it out and just have some fun.
But I find that the movement in-game is completely broken. It's as if the up arrow is constantly pressed, I constantly walk upwards and when I press down I move left and pressing up and left do nothing.
It's just really wierd.

It happens whether I run the game from RPG Maker or from the .exe file.

So I downloaded the VX trial to see if the newer version fixed it, but nope, same issue in VX.

Anyone know what might be up?

Well since its happening with both XP and Vx odds are its not the programs, but rather computer or keyboard. Maybe your keyboard is broken.

I can confirm that my keyboard is fine. All the buttons including the arrow keys work perfectly fine in every other program except RPG Maker.

Restarting didn't help either.

I already tried reinstalling XP, and then completely removing that and installing VX.

This is on a completely new game file so with all default scripts.

Arrow keys work fine in EVERYTHING else.

When that happened to me, back in the 2k days, it was because I had a slightly loose joystick plugged in that was messing with the controls. Do you have any other sort of joypad or joystick or steering wheel connected?

Nope :S

All I have plugged in is headphones and the power cable >_>

I did forget to mention, it seems like down works fine on menus. I can scroll through menus downwards fine, just not upwards.

And all other buttons work fine, enter/escape/space all do what they should do.

EDIT:
I just did a test battle and it seems that the down and right arrows are functioning properly, up and left are "I THINK" acting as if they are permenantly down.

During play, press F1 and see if there is anything wrong within the configurations? Probably not it, but who knows.

On that F1 settings screen I went to keyboard and the arrow keys aren't referenced at all.
I hit reset to set everything back to default anyway but it still doesn't work.

This is really frustrating. :S

try smashing your buttons that arnt working. if all else fails, HIT IT.

Well, uninstalling the program is different from uninstalling the RTP.  They are different files and are downloaded separately, so you might have missed them when you were uninstalling/re-installing.  If that's not the answer, then I'm not sure what the problem is.

I didn't uninstall the RTP.
I'll uninstall both and reinstall and see if that helps at all.

Nah, didn't think that would help. Still broken.

Just rereading the post where Doctor mentioned a joystick being plugged in. And although I have nothing plugged in, I figured perhaps the computer THOUGHT there was something plugged in.
So I go to device manager, and right there is a "USB Game Controller" or something.
Uninstall it. Problem solved.
