So I'm buying a sword...

Take it from a samurai, swords that cost that little are sure to break easily, or be to dull to actually do anything. Good swords can range from anywhere between 50 to 1,000 USD. If you're just doing it for looks sure, you could get it. Swords are in disuse, because no one ever uses them so essentially all swords nowadays are for decoration.

Also be sure if you're getting a real sword to check if it's allowed and legal. Last thing you would want is a prohibited item to be sent through the mail or you possessing a weapon that's not considered appropriate.

What arc and ccoa say are completely true. I'm not doing much with it. Just "playing hero" essentially. Also using it for decoration. I'm 16, any sword at my age is nice, so I'd like to go for the cheapest I can get.

@arc:It's a only a temporary "defilement", so don't stress it out :p

@Dopples: Nothing wrong with buying that sword for decoration purposes, though it might have slight beauty flaws... shouldn't be the case, though, but I'd still check out your local weapons store, as they usually have this kind of sword as well, and you can actually take a look at them there.

Untrue, man... Iaijutsu and Kenjutsu still use 'real' swords (called 'Shinken', but essentially being on the same level as a feudal counterpart), and they're still smithed all over the world. I'm also not sure if it's still used within the Japanese military, but I would say yes, at least the higher ranks. Then again, even those might just be Gunto, though...

It is MUCH better to do that with a replaceable $20 than an imported sword from a Japanese master swordsmith that costs $41,000 because it's made with your own blood and has ruby inlays.

That was actually based on a real sword a friend of mine had made.

That thing is badass.
