SMF, moving web host

I have an SMF forum on my website on one webhost, and wish to move it to another webhost.

I've installed SMF on my new host already.

I downloaded the database through the admin CP, which I presume is what you do. But how do I then add this to the new forum?

I tried just overwriting the existing database with this one, but this just brings up a "cannot find database" error.

Any help?

How I did it was just create a new SMF installation at my new location with identical database data (exactly, tabe prefix and everything) and then just overwrite the default tables with my own backed up ones.

Keep in mind, if you're on a shared host or using cpanel, even though you create a database that could be named, say, "forum", depending on the server owner's configuration (the default is for cpanel to do so), it will prefix the database name and username with your username on the server.

So say, your username on the server was wyatt, your database would be "wyatt_forum" and the user the same, even though you just typed wyatt into both fields =)

If you are using cPanel with the aforementioned default configuration, then Silverline's solution should probably clear it up.

If not, then you should make sure that the new SMF's configurations are identical to your old one. I don't know how SMF stores its configuration settings, but assuming it does so like IPB and vBulletin, you would also have to edit the config.php file (or something like that) and make sure the database name, prefix, username and password are correct.
