Slimy The Sahagin Workshop (PA)

Slimy The Sahagin Workshop

I tend to draw, a lot. Recently, I've been creating materials for a remake of an old, failed RMXP project of mine, called Slimy the Sahagin. Since I have an urge to use more custom-made resources, and the fact that I really hate the styles given by the RTP, I've been starting to make a few of my own chractersets/battlers. This thread is mainly for critique, though I'm not going to place any psuedo-copyright on any of these materials (since most are just edits/recolors/drawings based on another design/etc.)

Terms
The resources presented are mainly for C&C (Comments and Criticism in case you didn't know already), but on occasion I may post whether a certain resource can be used by anyone, but by common courtesy, you must give credit to me as either "Ratty524" or my real name if you know it. It isn't hard to follow rules, now is it? So please don't give me a reason to hunt you down. :)

Basically a bunch of edits, though some will be from scratch.

After testing them in a project, I found that the battlers originally posted were too large and had "color border" syndrome. So I reposted them and added more.
The new ones are three enemies including: A redrawing of the RTP Ghost (Which I would not care if anyone stole), a fat-lipped starfish I named "Starbuck" (pun intended), and a chameleon-like... thing I named "Gameleo".

Here they are:

The monsters are very well done, and very cute, especially the seahorse guy. Your human battlers would be of the same quality except their faces look hurried.

I don't know if you actually hurried or not, but I think the quality of their faces are holding the professional-look of them back. You seem to have done well with the faces of the mobs, so perhaps just human faces are your weakness.

What's weak about them? The eyes are poorly outlined, the noses look incomplete, and their facial expressions are not as lively or full of character as the monsters'. Also, for the thief, it's particularly hard for one to open your mouth that way and not show atleast a little teeth.

These are just notes, I'm not trying to be negative. Like I said, everything but the faces needs no comment because the style is solid and it has a lot of charm.

edit: Oh, and I see some white crap around the black outlines, might wanna edit that out.

@Venetia: Thanks for the suggestion. I'm kind of an amateur artist who is still learning some of the ropes.

In regards to faces being hurried, I would say "kind of". I have an unconscious impatience syndrome I work without correcting much mistakes, it's something I'm definitely trying to fight.

Eyes: Care to give examples? I'm having a bit a trouble understanding.
Noses: Now that I look at them you are definitely right. Maybe adding some kind of curve or nostril may solve it, I'll see what I can do.
Facial Expressions: Once again I see your point.

White stuff: At first I was kind of afraid of doing so, but I'll try editing them out.

Jesus, I had to go the 4th page to find this thread. >_<

Anyway, I've been trying to find a new design for the human characters of this little game that I currently haven't started. I would like opinions on the following battler:

Sorry I didn't really follow Venetia's example on how to draw eyes, but when I actually tried to it always ended up looking strange to me. When I finally drew more round-ish eyes, I felt a lot more happy. :)

I make too many battlers, heck I can just trash the RTP crap and replace it with these. :p

Cactipiller(Yes, pun intended)

Moto Chomp

Kobran

Imp(Intended to be the RTP Imp, though I forgot to add rings and I added a tail for personal preferences)
http://i78.photobucket.com/albums/j114/ ... SS_imp.png[/IMG]

I don't know when I'd use it, but I also made an Imp characterset edit to look more like the Imp battler I drew. All I did was recolor it to a more greenish hue and added a penis tail at the end of it.

HE KNOWS TOO MUCH! *dispatches army of big-ballsacked tanukis*

Heh, I'll admit that this is very Sonic the Hedgehog influenced, mainly in the style of design only.

Update? Improved the windowskin. I got rid of that blur (since many of the RMXPUniverse members didn't like it), rose the battler arrows up a bit, and figured out what those arrows on the top right were for (I can't help it, I'm dense. :P)

Also, in my spare time I tried spriting one of my enemies from scratch.

I like that windowskin and that monster. A lot. Of course you know I'm a Sonic freak.

Although unless you have a script to retain patterns (I think I saw one), the checkerboard pattern there's gonna get all kinds of stretched out in menus and things. I'd recommend making that background solid or something.

But otherwise, nice :')

Indeed. Someone showed me how to edit Window_Base to tile the windowskin instead of stretch it. It's pretty nifty.^_^
