SimpleMachines + Website

Heya, I have a SMF forum, and a HTML-based website. I'm wondering if there is any way of sort of integrating the two on certain pages.

Basically I have this page:

http://vengeance-rpg.com/vengeance/client.htm

It's just a download page.

But I want this page only to be available to people logged in to the forum, which is here:

http://forums.vengeance-rpg.com/index.php?action=forum

I'm thinking there must be some way of getting the "logged in?" data from SMF, or just taking a generic page's template and removing all the actual forum bits and plug in the html from the new page, but I'm not sure. I don't have much experience in this sort of thing, the only php editting I've done is rearranging divs and changing the skin a bit, things like that.

Does anyone have any knowledge of this, or any pointers?

I'd also like it to display a different page if you aren't logged in, basically saying "you must be logged in to do this".

There's probably a SMF portal somewhere? I'm sure you could dig through the SMF mods and find something to your liking.

Or switch to phpBB...

You can't do a restriction page with plain HTML. You'll have to use PHP (SMF probably has some type of website interface portal. If not, use a less crappy software like phpBB 3).

Hey, check out the SSI engine in SMF. I actually just built a site with integrated SMF features and although it took me a long fugging time to find the docs it is very powerful once you figure it out. It wil let you use SMF's login boxes, display all kinds of information like top posts, number & names of people logged in, etc. anywhere in your site, as well as let you use SMF's user database and authentication scripts for access-control to parts of your own site.

My advice, however, is to do this yourself and do not get a portal/CMS unless you really need the the features or writing a little integration code is outside the scope of your ability. It's not tough though. The SSI examples page will show you much of what you can do and the proper code to do it with, they're very simple function calls for the most part. Good luck :)
