his gown is really undershaded compared with his body. in fact, it hardly looks shaded at all. his helmet has the same problem, but the linework is also really messy. you can't just tilt a sprite to get a new pose and not clean it up by hand afterwards.

Looks fine in game only thing ill agree with is maybe a tad more shading on the gown

of course it'd look fine to you; you're the one who made it.

generally speaking it's not wise to blow off criticism and assume your view of the sprite is the correct one unless you have good reason to. as the sprite's creator, you automatically carry a bias towards your own work.

you missed the mark completely there.

its my first sprite therefor I expected it to be really bad but in game it is actually pretty good and the low saturation that has caused some of the shading to fade works really well in a silent hill game with the fog and the general close to black and white imagery

as for the bias thing however... are you on drugs mate? you cant accuse someone you've never met and will probably never meet of a personality defect, how can you possibly know whether I'm bias or not.

Pyramid head has had a revamp and ive given him his cleaver as well as crucifying him and giving him both a living and dead nurse monster to join in with the slaying

I think ill do the straight jacket monster next

If this is your first attempt at spriting then it's incredible! I've tried learning how to sprite countless times, and never even get close to this quality.

Mawk is genuinely just trying to help though, and even though you may have taken it as an insult, that's not how he meant it. But he's right about the bias part, we all have it for our own work. I have a close friend that I will always show my drawings to, because I know he will always give it to me straight. "This part is actually out of proportion / that shading isn't quite right" etc. I think that we miss these things having stared at the image we're working on for so long. Though for some reason, if you hold the image up to a mirror, or filp it horizontally in photoshop, you can suddenly spot a LOT of slight errors just because you're looking at it in a new light. Strange.

Anyways, this really is good work by any standards, and great work for a first sprite. Seems to me that Pyramid's head could still use a little cleaning up when he's tiliting it left or right. Particularly the fourth and eighth ones down on the right: the bottom left of his head seems like there's a chunk missing from his pyramid. Might just be that it needs a darker outline on that tiny bit? He looks great crucified though! Hopefully he stays crucified...

Also, check out the nurse's head from the back. The shading is different on the standing sprite to the walking ones. A little bit of TLC and these will look perfect!

Ill try that... it sounds like a useful idea

thanks for the pointer i see the errors ill touch them up tonight as im doing some more spriting and puzzles tonight me thinks.

also yes he does stay crucified... thats what happens when you finaly beat him, im using rapid flashing images of chains and a rising cross after you kill him and then hes just left hanging there afterwards... but not before seriously giving some agro throughout the vast majority of the rest of the game

ps. cheers for the comment i appreciate it

Dude, a silent hill RPG?

Heck yeah man!

And those sprites... are... REALLY REALLY GOOD. Especially since they're your first sprites. You have quite a future with spriting.

Thanks man...

The Silent Hill RPG is actualy looking great at the mo (tho its early days yet) and if you like I can message you when its done and upload a link.

Can I also just say thanks again to anyone who likes my sprites cus I feel more motivated than ever about this project thanks to you guys.

Also, the current working title is "Return To Silent Hill"... lemme know what you think to that as well and feel free to make any better suggestions.

That sounds like a great title! Oh and be sure to include all the creepy music and especially the piano theme song for silent hill! A silent hill game needs the creepy minor key music to be KILLER.

Good luck ;]

Will do that, as well as composing some of my own eg www.myspace.com/justwillis and listen to the track i did called silence.

also cheers for the compliments, always apreciated

Not bad works....
There is some made pillow shading on the nurses ...........hat? ....bandage? I've never played silent hill, so I'm looking at the template with little knowledge of what the sprite should resemble.

I think the cleaver being carried by Pyramid head looks too "rounded" If you sharpened it up, it would be much more sinister.

sorry to say this kid but mawk is righ we are biased on our sprite

how ever i find your nuse and child face really blurry yet i cant put my finger on the why though

overall they could work few shading improvements

fair comments.

about the blurriness, on the nurse I don't have a clue I used a blending brush effect on the face so that all the messy holes in the face weren't to pronounced but thats about it... as for the child, that was a deliberate use of the smudge tool as to give of the impression of a constant facial distortion of which didn't work as well as I had hoped but still gets the general effect I was aiming to achieve to compliment my game.

when I get the rest of the sprites finished I will backtrack to the earlier ones to do any shading corrections.

ps. I appreciate the advice but please... don't call me kid when I'm a year older than you, I find it very patronizing and degrading, so please, check how old I am then refrain from referring to me as a child

The actual head on Pyramid Head seems off in the front angle tilt. I don't know if it's a limitation of sprite size or what, but it seems tilted too far down and not rigid in the supposedly flat part.

I has drawn a pictures;

2mfc0le.jpg

It shows the top part, being the one you've seemed to base it over, as the original Pyramid Head model with a tilted front. Note that the back, however, is still rigid instead of bending back on his shoulders. On top of that, the tilt wasn't that far down, but again, I don't know if you were limited to that size and had to push it down further to get it all in.

The bottom part, however, shows the recent model of his head, a rigid pyramid that everyone is more used to seeing, due to the movie and Homecoming.

And in the corner is the way you have yours.

Also lol @ getting worked up over being called a kid.
