Shoegaze by Cruelty

sooooo i decided to try my hand at something i'd never done before - shoegaze. i took a lot of influence from my bloody valentine and the deftones, and put together two tracks (actually 3 but i don't like the last enough to share it).

btw if you've never heard of this stuff before, it's basically droning guitars, and a strong 'wall of sound'. expect more reverb than you ever wanted to hear, and amorphous guitar chords which are nearly impossible to make out. also it's very slow and dreamy. :)

first track:
kinda post-rock-esque, and less drone-y than the other. also has some lead guitar work, and the melodies are more pronounced than the 2nd track. still very dreamy, tho.

second track:
much simpler, there's no lead guitar like in the other. the drums are more sparse, and i turned my bridge pickup on for this one, so there's lots of extra bass frequencies.

i am very happy with both of these tracks, but i'd like some outside opinions. thanks for listening.

lol, i'll be seeing Deftones AND My bloody valentine this summer @ the Pukkelpop Festival (belgium)

OT: Quite nice songs, i'd like to use them but they don't fit in mygame :p

lolmovies,
those are bands.

i was tempted to say something myself about that but i figured id let it slide lol

anyway, about the song.

it has emotion, its melodic, good progression, but its a bit muddy sounding, i think you have a bit of mastering to do, also its a bit simplistic, i think its a perfect candidate to be orchestrated into something completely epic, i think adding a lead violin and a string section to accent the rhythm, toning down the distorted guitar a bit to make some headroom for more parts, but thats my 2 cents

i had to do a bit of mastering to get that sound :}
i'm glad you commented with that, because it lets me know i got it right! i've done clear, and crisp tracks before, i wanted to make these intentionally foggy and hard to figure out because it complements the theme i'm going for here (sleep).

also, its not meant to be background music for anything - especially a game, this is a personal music project

this one took nearly 3 days to take form. i couldn't figure out what to do with it.. but i think it kinda did its own thing and worked itself out. i swear these things write themselves.

thaaanks for listening guys. i appreciate it

This genre is not really my cup of tea, but I can tell that you put a huge amount of work into it, and it's certainly good for what it is. I give you an :thumb:/10.
