Secret of Mana

i loved that game it was awesome anyone else?
no one remembered it? it was a great game...

The great mana tree is weakining due to evil growing wildly and the sword of mana rusting
as the legend went *i think* "after the fall of the great sky fortress the sword of mana was placed and the prophocy was made
when the sword should rust a great hero will draw it to restore its power and stop the impending doom" or something like that *ben a long time since i played it*

Characters:
(whatever you named him)
he was raised in a vilage after they took him in and he was the one to draw the rusted sword of mana and because of this monsters where able to multiply at insane numbers.

(whatever you named her)
she saved the main character and joined him to travel the world...

Sprite(also namable i think)
he was found by dwarves where you meet them because of *play the game and find out*

you should beat it then really great game is long and the battle system was fun and its pretty hard to beat.
it was a great game it should be praised =)

Considering the nature of this thread, lexo-tulan, you are just aching for people to go ahead and post one word responses to your question "does anyone remember Secret of Mana?"

Try to put more information in your original post for those people who have not played the game and may become interested in playing it in the near future (hence a reason for discussion).

-----------------

Secret of Mana has to be one of the few games that make my Top 5 list of "Greatest-SNES-games-of-all-time". The storyline is awesome, the game play is even better and the graphics are top notch (even to today's standards).

The game itself really isn't that hard to beat once you get the hang of it. I mean, you can chain cast with the Sprite to level up your magic (and you will soon find out that little bugger is the most valued asset to your party).

Anywho, I would recommend this game to anyone who hasn't already played it. It certainly is an addicting game (especially when you get to use Flammie the Dragon).

EDIT: Changed the title to a more appropriate, discussable topic.

EDIT #2: Oh, and the ending almost made me cry. ;_;

Great points there Maestro. I never played it until a year ago when I played it online with a friend. It is extremely addicting. The second one was pretty good as well, but we never got the chance to finish it.

The battle system is extremely fun. It's not the same Attack/Defend/Item system that gets boring quickly. The only downside is that magic can be exploited so easily, boss battles are nothing more than use magic 5 times and tada!

The Mode07 was in it as well, which is just a classic for its time as well.

Great game to play.

sorry, i'll add some more discriptive response to the first post to describe the bases of the story *if i can remember most of it*

Adding

SephirothSpawn that wasn't all there was to it once you got farther you needed about 50 castes to kill bosses and for some reason gnome was the best element *most enamies are weak against*

Trickster what the hell are you talking about, it is the same ol attack/defend/skill/item system except it's an abs. Just because it's button responsive, doesn't mean the entire system has changed.

If you're talking about the first SoM I thought it was ok. Wasn't a very captivating story. I feel it's one of the few series that got better later in the series.

I never beat it, but it was worth playing. I'm not saying it was a bad game. It was fun and innovative for it's time. I just like the later releases a bit more.

Yeah it was pretty good, i think there was a gamebody 'remake' that wasn't all that. Also, Children of mana comes out for DS soon.

There was another great SNES game... Illusian of Gaia? I think.

SoM was a good game...never got around to beating it though...*snip*.The only of Mana game I've ever beaten was LoM and is personally my favorite.

There are so many great games for the snes. Personally I wouldn't mind seeing a lot of them remade for the current generation consoles. That is so long as they didn't make the graphics all super deformed in an effort to keep "the spirit of the game" or whatever. SD graphics rarely look good in 3d.

- RMXP.org does not condone piracy in any shape or form.

FAR too bright and vibrant to look good in 3D. :p

Yeah, I've beaten LoM too. SoM was just one of those game that didn't seem to have a direction. Like it could just go on forever.

Never played SoM. But I've played a friends copy of CoM(borrowing from a friend). And I must say, that after the first 2 dungeons(and that's a stretch), it becomes a crappy dungeon grind. Really bad game.

But I here that SoM is actually good. If they ever did an english port/remake, it may put some interest in me.

Sword of Mana on the GBA was actually a remake of Final Fantasy Adventure which is the first Mana game. Secret of Mana is actually the second following Seiken Densetsu 3 and Legend of Mana.

Sword of Mana wasn't all that bad but it was pretty average compared to the others. Children of Mana is downright awful; don't buy it unless you're a hardcore fan. The made the thing too easy that the "Children" part in the title begins to make sense.

Legend of Mana is amazing, though. It recieved a lot of hate because it didn't have a "continuous storyline" but the game was about the characters, not some generic deus ex machina filled plot. The different arching storylines like the people of the Jumi and the romantic centaur were very touching and gave the game a personal touch. LoM also had tons of gameplay features such as weapon, item, and magic creation as well as Golem creation and programming which was a really awesome addition. It also had great co-op (although your friend could only play as storyline guests) and the battle arena was pretty fun as well if you had two characters of the same level (pitting two lv.99s against each other rocked hard).

I'm just hoping Dawn of Mana doesn't drop the Secret of Mana 1/2 ball.

EDIT: LoM was a step in the right direction. They need to remember the awesomeness of that games.

And Children of Mana is a solid, if simple, dungeon crawler. I wouldn't say it's awful. It's not LoM on DS though, which is what I wanted. :D

Yeah, ditto on that Arc. I was kinda dissapointed when I realized the thing was a dungeon crawler. The bouncing thing is kinda annoying, but hey.

Legend of Mana was my favorite of the series... I used to love making weapons. No future mode put me in my place when I thought I had grinded to perfection, though... Being murdered by level 100 (or was it 99?) rabites is quite humbling.
