script editor

Given that I?m pretty new with RMXP, I have a question, but I guess it?s an important one. In the case of a large game: is everybody work directly in the script editor offered in RMXP? Or you people work on another kind of programming environment to deal with complex code?

From my quick investigation the script editor in RPGMaker doesn?t seems much elaborated, for instance, it doesn?t even give a summary of the errors while trying to test the game. Could be a source of big frustrations which doesn?t make sense.

Eh? It tells you the type of error, the script it's from, and the line it's on, and jumps you to that line when you open the script editor... What more do you expect it to tell you? o_O

Yes, elder, we all work in the RGSS editor, when we implement our code. And yes, it can be highly frustrating when we only get a line number, when it all screws up.
I dont think there is another environment to make these script in, because some things in the game's code is and always will be hidden. (Unless you break the agreement with Enterbrain and haxxors into it)
I'm taking Java at the moment and it would be nice with a Compiler or Debugger of some kind ready for use, when writing inside the RGSS. ':|

Seph, I think he's looking for something like Visual Studio: RGSS.
Unfortunately, it doesn't, and probably never will... exist.
Although, a simple syntax checker would be really cool.
(especially for those of us that bounce around between C, C++, TCL & Ruby, et.al.)

The best advice I can give is segment your code well, develop small chunks at a time, & test a lot.

Happy Gamemaking
