Science fair project

Most of the members at hbgames should know what a science fair is, unless your a hobo... Anyway, I got into advance science at now I have to do the science fair project, so my question is "Can playing a video game change children's learning abilities?" so I need you to tell me the estimate of hours you play games each day and tell me your grade average (If your grade is very very low then you can pm it to me, trust me, it will be between you and me) and help me out here.
Now just one rule about posting here: (I take school very seriously)

Hey cool, a science fair project! I used to do these in grade school - good times. (My best project was the study of effectiveness of the use of antioxidants on the bacteria Agrobacterium Tumefaciens. Yes. I'm so :specs: )

Grade Average: Around 89%.
Hours a day on gamm;s: Around a half-hour, if that. I don't play games very often.

My high school GPA was around 4.3, and I gamed for, idk, call it an average of an hour a day? Varied a lot.

During high school 4.0 GPA and 2hrs a day I guess. More on weekends naturally.

A lot of video game players, particularly RPG players, tend to be more nerdy and smart, so they'll make better grades. Just pointing this out as it might skew results, if you really wanted to go in depth with the project, since there are a lot of RPGers here. Otherwise ignore this comment altogether to keep the test simple. :P

Well on highschool i played for like 5/6 hours a day and I got a grade of 16.8 out of 20.
On university I play for like 3/4 hours and get around 15.8 out of 20...

About your project, it really depends on the kind of games we play, get a kid playing some puzzle games and strategy, and get another playing Mortal Kombat for instance, its not the same thing...
So it kinda depends on what you play, you might take that into acount aswell... just a opinion.

My GPA overall for high school was 2.5.
I usually spent about an hour a night on video games, probably 6-7 on weekends.
I typically played RPGs, adventure games, platformers, and RTS's.
I wouldn't blame my low gpa on video games; I just hardly ever went to school. The only thing that got me to graduation were high test scores. Also I was in all AP and college courses in high school, so you know, they have higher standards and generally frown on missing 60+ days a year.

When I was in elementary and middle school I was getting about a 3.5-4.0 GPA, and I probably gamed more back then. I just cared more about school.

In college I averaged a 3.7 GPA but I barely ever got to game: I had to work full time too

My grades were reduced because I kept forgetting to turn things in, or I kept losing them. I pretty much spent my after school days playing video games or going on the internet. Hell, that's how I spend most of my day now.

So, my stats:

I spent approximately 6 to 10 hours a day playing video games during school. My GPA was 3 out of 4. I spent my time playing real-time strategy, roleplaying, and first person shooting games.

Year 7-11, time spent playing games: 6-8 hours a day
Grade average: A*

Year 12-13, time spent playing games: didn't at all
Grade average: D to E

thanks's guys, I've been researching and some say the playing video games actually might increase you learning skills and abilities, it's interesting, but I still need more so I can get an accurate result, the thing I'm getting currently is that people who play the most have a higher grade average.

You still need more, eh?

I gamed, on average, 2-3 hours/day in highschool (RPGs, Sandbox, platformers, etc) => 3.75gpa out of 4/5. Watch out for that, btw - my school went on a weighted grading system, so even though my gpa is technically 3.75/5, the only way you can get near a 5 was by taking AP courses (which i didn't), so it's more like 3.75 out of 4ish.

I used to play games like 4 hours a day and my grades average was about 5 (6 is the highest and that's almost impossible to have here, in Switzerland)

I have about a 3.2, and game maybe like half-hour to hour a day. More on weekends. Funny thing is, is that I had a 4.0 when I was younger and I played video games from when I got home to when I went to sleep.

My project is going to have to end on this monday because I only get a week to do it, so I need all the info today from the ones who have not generously posted.

I also want some under achievers because I have not been able to interview anyone at my school who has an F and a D.

GPA: 3.8 Video Game Usage: ~1-2 hours / month*

*In 1981, the only video games were in arcades. I cost .25 a pop to play Galaga, Pac-Man, Asteroids or pinball.
