Samusk's Half Kaizer Forge [Re-Opened]

Welcome back to my Workshop friends. Here I will showcase my work in progress for the upcoming project, Shining Force Battle Kit.

It took me a while to figure out the anatomy as well as the proper perspective of the horse and man. thanks to a few references (including Tana's horse), I was able to get out a better looking Chester and Centaur that is HK sized. Once I get the C&C's from you all I will begin to make the rest of the charset. This is, I believe, one of my best works yet. I didn't want to use the original sprites from the sega game so I made my own version.

I took chester back to the drawing board and adapted a horse template by Tana to make a better centaur. the original didn't look as good and this one is a little more HK and slimmer. The hard part was getting the human part to line up correctly. Now this isn't a complete template. I lined it out and basic colored it as there are no shadows on the horse part. So I now present for C&C, the HK centaur of Chester from Shining Force 2.

More will follow soon. Like a pegasus knight and then I will get into the other races ( rodent, phoenix, birdman)

something always bothers me when I look at creatures like horses on a 3/4 down-view perspective. It's the way they seem to look like they're rearing up in the back or something. Like you can see too much back. They don't look like they're on a very steep down-view on the sideviews, yet on the fronts and backs it looks very steep.

I realize you're outlining Tana's horse but her horse had a few problems, too, it wasn't perfect.

Down-view animals are pretty difficult.

I think that, if you reduced the amount of horse-tush you can see in the back, and made the back hooves more visible, that'd be a huge deal. Likewise, shorten the backview a little bit. Not as much as the frontview.

The chest (horse's chest) slopes downward too much, and the legs are too thin and knobby-looking. Since these sprites are reduced versions of real-life, and a little chubbier, there's no problem with fattening up the horse a little.

Cerulean Skye made a PERFECT HK horse a little while back, the sideview atleast, I'd recommend looking that up. I also made something called a Saiyer in my workshop (see spoiler in sig), which is more deer-like but it has more natural motions than the horse there, atleast for a small trot (this guy will look very strange, standing idle).

As for the guy-part of the horse, the palette needs a LOT of work (too vibrant, yet too dull somehow), the shading is sparse, and the hair needs a lot of work (check out the tutorials section for an HK Hair Spriting Tutorial I did a while back).

Do you know where the horse is here. I searched but had no luck. As for the shading and such, I want to complete the rest of the template so it all comes together. The horse part itself is dressed in armor so it will look a little better. If you can point to the thread with the HK horse I would be very appreciative.

Thank you for looking over my work. It helps when someone like you with your expertise reviews my work.

I'll say one thing. The horse half needs to be shrunken down A LOT. Its FAR too big. I realize that that's the size of HK horse  but it should not be proportionate to that. It just doesn't fit on him and it makes him look way too big for it. I suggest shrinking the horse body to the point that the legs are only a little taller than the original template . trust me.

You know that is my hardest problem with it. It drove me nuts trying to find the right proportion. I was trying to see it from an HK's point of view. watching movies like narnia and tv shows like Xena and Hercules, it gave me a little insight into the height problem.

So with that in mind, I will rethink the height on the horse. Venetia gave me a little help with the horse she posted here from cerulean skye. I'll see what I can do and post a better version as soon as I can. Thanks all.

Back again. I decided to take a break from the shining force sprites and work on some new ones. I present to you the unfinished works of Starfleet beginning with Voyager. When it is completed I intend to have worthy submissions to the HKCP. so without further ado:

Seven of Nine, Capt. Janeway, Lt. Cmdr Tuvok

I am using the palettes from HKCP for hair and clothing.

OOO I like Tovak's sprite. Janeway kinda looks like she's balding with all that forehead showing, she needs eyebrows or bring the hair line down. I don't remember 7's outfit being that light, I can barely see the communicator.

Her outfit turned silver in the later series actually ...Obviously emphasizing her less that modest female parts =P.

If you're doing full sprites I highly suggest using the finalised version of the template, http://rmxp.org/templates/hk/index.php There. You're still using the GRTP template which..is strange.

I don't think these poses will be available for the HKCP. They're more of an add on for people who want to do them. So making sprites in these poses is a little counterproductive , I have to say

Moreover, your shading looks really cell shaded. If that's what you're going for , fine, but in this style they are incompatible with the rest of the HKCP

Yeah I still have the sheets from the GRTP. I'll redo them according to the final HK templates and re-up them soon. thanks for the good criticism. I see I am off to a good start.
