Hello HB Games, I am requesting some help here, I'm trying to get as much help/ feedback that I can, we are working on a sprite template and have a walk/run animation our UP frame is shit for walking, and the up and down are just like (what the fuck) we are having so much trouble making them! So if anyone could lend a hand that would be awesome!

Thank you for taking the time to check it out.

TL:DR; Need advice on up walking, and up/down running animation, we are lost ;0;

A friend of mine and myself are working on a game, we have run into a problem with the walk run animations, for us the Down, Left, Right patterns for the walk are fine but we are having some trouble with the up and would like to get some help/feedback, also we are completely lost when it comes to the up and down running/dash animation, we have looked at examples and tried a few techniques but its not coming out how we would want it, is there anyone out here that could help or give some advice? Or at least point us to the correct direction?

Thanks <3

...I cannot believe you are making this template, because I've been wanting a template like this for quite a while. 6-frame animations at ~60 pixels tall. I don't think I can really help you with your animations because you're already much farther than I am with the same thing, but if it's alright with you I may just use your template :)

I believe the problem with up/down running is that there's no correct answer, there's just different ways to exaggerate movement.

The 3/4 perspective of the sprites isn't very helpful for showing the same body movement as the left/right directions, I think Secret of Mana did something like tilt the entire head forwards and moved it down the sprite so you'd see more hair than face, I know that Pokemon games just moved the head down the body for running down and moved the shoulders up for running up.

Personally what I would do is follow secret of mana's example;

Not only does the head tilt forward and move down but the upper body does some rotation and the arms and legs swing more, this looks more important for the running up sprite than down.

You just need to find other examples and get inspired I suppose.
