RPG World Battle

Setting
Around the turn of the 4th millennium...
Mankind's heavy extraction of Earth's resources have drained the oceans, polluted the skies and destroyed the forests.
The years leading up to this time, humanity have reached the stars and galaxies and constructed great fleets of spacecraft, but only now has the need to colonise a new planet has been realised.
The project to save the last of humanity, led by Earth's greatest mind Julian Ambrose, is to construct a ring-world planet around a distant star that has similar properties to Earth's sun.
The ring-world construct, so alone in the night-sky, was named Solitude.
The engineers of Solitude balanced the ring-world around it's sun using four great rockets, called Engines, that seasonally fire to realign Solitude and keep it from shifting too close to the sun.
To give the inhabitants of Solitude plentiful resources for energy, four great solar panels were erected from the outer-edges of the ring. Using the gravity of the central star, these panels rotate slowly around the ring-world, casting shadows onto it's surface, mimicking the old Earth's day and night cycle.
Humans, including Julian who indefinitely extended his own life-span to see the end of Solitude's construction, finally set their new home on the ring-world, and buried their written history into a great, sunken library in the middle of Solitude's largest desert.
However, when transporting the landmasses of Europe onto Solitude's structure, they unknowingly carried a great historic entity and set it into the new planet's surface.
A countless amount of time passes, the old Earth is now destroyed, the only surviving humans are on Solitude. The past is forgotten, only the great library and the still-surviving Julian Ambrose remember.
The people believe Solitude was constructed by the gods and they are the chosen life-forms, to extract the elemental powers of the land into the veins of families and to ensure Solitude stays safe and prosperous.

Story
During the 4th recorded century.
One of the cities built upon the location of Engine 3 is attacked by a great flying structure, known to be Julian Ambrose's science station of the skies.
7 friends are brought together, to work together and to fight together. Engine 3 is destroyed, Solitude's collected engineers can repair it, however, with them all working to repair Engine 3, the others Engines are exposed to attack.
Armies rise defensively at each city, soldiers of towns in deserts, mountains and oceans are called to their nearest city.
After their airship is shot-down during the fight above the city of Engine 3 and 5 of them wrongly imprisoned, the 7 heroes take up their own task of stopping Julian before he reaches Engine 4, to find out the meanings behind why he has started this sudden attack, the desert library that they had stumbled across days before and the truth of their 7th newest friend's creation inside one of Julian's laboratories.
But they are not the only free-lance fighters taking to the skies to stop Julian.

Characters (In order of appearance)

gus.png

Name: Gus
Element: Solitude
Description: Brother of Felix. His blood is infused with the power of the sand and the soil. A deep thinker, a true leader. So much is inside his mind, now he focuses it on the task he shares with his friends.

felix.png

Name: Felix
Element: Ice
Description: Gus's brother. Felix's veins carry Ice-cold blood, even in the desert, he wears thick clothing and a scarf. His radio mast gives the heroes a second income from the various sponsored and commissioned broadcasts that it transmits, and brings in enough seasonal revenue to keep the team's airship in good condition.

andrew.png

Name: Andrew
Element: Light
Description: Andrew met Gus as a child and they have always kept a strong bond between each other. Gus' brute-strength is complimented by Andrew's sheer-speed as his blood carries the element of the sun's light itself. Beware; under the shadows of a solar panel Andrew's elemental abilities are weakened. His intelligent, serious nature keeps the team on track and clear with their goals.

oli.png

Name: Oli
Element: Electricity
Description: Oli was originally the paid pilot of the airship, however, after several close encounters and life-threatening situations he has faced with the team, he became a friend. Oli's has always been infused with the electrical energy from the solar panels as a child, he can use the energy from his hands to power his tools and make repairs to the airship.

noimage-1.png

Name: Ali
Element: Air
Description: Ali was paid to work with the team to assassinate a leader of bandits. He worked so well with the team that he asked to join their free-lance fighter company. Using air itself, he can bend arrows shot from his bow, and accelerate them in the head of a target. He is useful when the airship is caught in high-winds, or is near the tornadoes of a support-arm for a solar-panel.

noimage-1.png

Name: Lloyd
Element: Darkness
Description: Lloyd was found by the team after they discovered the ancient library and sought after Julian in one of his laboratories for answers. Due to his element being the opposite to Andrew's, the two frequently disagree. Like Andrew, he is intelligent and serious. His reason to find Julian is to find an explanation for his existence.

noimage-1.png

Name: Fred
Element: Fire
Description: Fred is the marksman of the team. He paid Gus and Felix to assist protecting his home-town from an attack of monsters, after defeating them, he offered to help out the team whenever he can. He knows Solitude's locomotion network like the back of his hand, and can always arrive to help out. However, he does have a short fuse and can let out a fiery rage.

I've been developing this RPG concept for a very long time now and after a few re-writes I'm submitting the short concept here for any kind of comment or review.
The more praise I get, the more likely I am to start developing it.

This will NOT be done in RPG maker as I need something more...flexible to work with.
It will be programmed from scratch with original graphics.
The main thing that will be programmed is a semi-3D battle system with the graphical style of Golden Sun, but with a battle system more like SNES-era Final Fantasy game.

This here is a title test made in VX, hope this helps you understand the mood and type of RPG this is supposed to be.

Please Ask Questions
It helps me think about it more and develop ideas more.

SO I actually read this story cause you seem to be a pretty decent member here and post here quite often so I thought maybe you'd thought this story through. But when I saw cliche at the title name I thought to myself, if people don't like Cliche, why is he doing it? You can't just admit something is cliche and do nothing about it, it will just hinder your progress and eventually give up cause nobodies gonna comment in good ways about it. I like your story idea, it all revolving around new exploration. But the elements just don't fit. It's like you took a childhood idea and gave it some more spice. Stories where characters come together with all different elements like Power Rangers, or Ronin Warriors or Captain Planet just don't make sense. First of all how would they all meet each other. There's no "Weirdo Seeker." And don't say it's a coincidence cause that's like finding a pot of gold under a rainbow. Unless everybody in that world would be able to obtain these elements.

I'd think this one through before continuing. Also post more in the sketch thread so people can critique your art so you can get better, I see you have some potential and it needs to be unlocked more.

All citizens on the planet have elements infused into them from birth based on parent's choice. Science did it during the 3rd millennium

And they were already together (Besides Fred who gets called in as the heroes leave the first city).

The game itself opens with Gus getting bailed from jail by Oli and Felix just after the attack (The team's airship was in the airspace when Julian's aircraft invaded and attacked, so it was shot down and captured incorrectly during the fire-fight) and each of the characters are met up around the city, if that gives you an idea of how the characters come together. They separate at times throughout the story and regroup.#

The manner of how they met is in their individual back-story, I wanted to give the scenario a twist by having the characters already know each other, and the story is told part-way through their lives, not at the beginning or the end of their time.

I'll remove cliche from the title then, I personally don't see it as a negative term.

I also added some of the opening to the story.

As for the art, I already have an artist who draws for me, these pictures aren't mine, they're his work made specifically for this story. They are stylised concepts for costume and hair designs rather than an attempt at good art.

But they don't come together like power rangers as they're already together :<
So how did they get together before this? Is it explained?

I understand you saying that all people are infused with "ELEMENTAL" powers at the beginning of their life. BUT WHY? What was the purpose?

Also what's Cliche is that your story has like 7. EXACTLY SEVEN heroes that are gonna SAVE THE WORLD of Solitude from Julian. And all SEVEN of these HEROES come together magically with exactly SEVEN different elemental powers without variation or chance of having the same one more than once cause it's PERFECT this way. Stories shouldn't be perfect. Two people should have fire or something cause it's just too convenient for them all to each have a different element.

Also, where are your chicks, it's just a big sausage fest. Chicks can fight too.

Party is all male, you do meet other people with element the same or even entirely different ones in different towns, some fight battles with you as an automatic NPC fighter also.
Which includes female fighters. The team is entirely male because of the chance and manner of how they all met.

There are 7 because they're based on real life people, "seven heroes" would never be mentioned in the game itself, the player would have to count to notice that there are seven of them.

The stories of how they meet up is written above and would be revealed slowly throughout the game, Lloyd's being the first explained as he is the latest addition right before the start of the game (Read above).

I suppose families give their children elemental powers to help with a potential career, Oli is a mechanic and uses electricity and magnetism to assist with his craft, but honestly it's about as much purpose as materia in FF7 and the elements each character has in Chrono Trigger.

EDIT: May I also add that it's not just the 7 playable characters out to SAVE THE WORLD, there are various private armies that also have the same goal and the player would meet them throughout the game.
And also, there are 9 playable characters in FF7. EXACTLY NINE. Gosh what are the chances.
And in game there will be loads of different elements, just that chance has it the player can only use 7 of those and gain NPC assists from a couple of others.

You're fighting me xilef. I'm not posting here to make you feel bad or anything. I'm just posting cause I wanna help you. Otherwise I'd have to waste my time doing other things. I really would never base anything after FF7 that's just asking for clicheness. All I'm saying is that you look like you took a good story and slapped elements to it. You really shouldn't post any ideas here unless you don't mind someone helping you change it for the better. Half the people here are hell bent with going one way with their story then they end up bumping their topic when nobody responds.

If anyone else disagrees with me. Feel free to shut me up

I'm not fighting you, I tried not to make it out like that, just that I already had answers for your questions and with your saying it's like they came together to fight the evil, that's nothing like what I tried to portray in the story and I had written how they met before hand in the first post :<
However saying the elements are just a random inclusion, they really are and it's just so there's something for story ideas to latch onto, I used FF7's materia example as, well, why materia? It's just so it has magic and something for story to latch onto.

I don't see what the fuss about cliché really is, if the story is good then I'm sure cliché want make everyone turn away instantly.
People don't turn off the game as soon as someone says "This is over" with the response "I'm afraid it's only just begun"

But yeah you got me thinking about the magical elements a bit more. Can't remove them they're already sunk into the plot, but the whole giving people magical powers for...Some reason...It needs an answer.

Perhaps it could be due to the new sun emmiting a type of radiation which is damaging the DNA, and it was discoverd that if you were to "nudge" the radiation in different ways you can alter the DNA, instead of damaging it, and the abilities are a side effect which has yet to be explaned, but they do know how to control what the side effect will become. People are given it as it is more preferable to DNA damage which causes a host of degenerate disorders.

How about that?

But later on in the game the big bad boss extracts all of Felix's element and uses it to freeze over the oceans and stop the arms of the solar-panels from rotating.
So direct altered DNA is a no. I want it to be like, small chemicals that flow through your veins.
But whhhhy are they there? Someone already suggested to me that they are extracted from monsters but where did they get them and why use them?

Does it really need answering? Perhaps HBGames users get into too much detail.
