RPG Maker XP and VX for Mac via Wineskin

I have recently packaged a copy of RPG Maker XP and RPG Maker VX in a form that someone running Mac OS X Leopard (10.5.x) or above on an intel mac can run. The download is rather huge, due to the fact that the wineskin package contains everything needed for the programs to run as well as a custom wineskin wrapper with just the runtime and instructions on how to use it for making mac based rgss games so be warned.

The DMG images are roughly between 800 MB and 1.0 GB in size, but that should not really be a problem for anyone that has a mac. The software does not have the serial keys built into it for legal reasons, so if you plan to use it, you need to purchase a license to use it from Enterbrain. Even midi files are working with these babies.

just for reference, each comes with a readme file that tells you how to use it for now, expect a Windows to Mac migration to for RPG Maker XP and VX in the near future. At this time, you would do this to make your game a Mac one:

1.) Save your project as usual.
2.) Duplicate your RGSS Player.app (or RGSS2 Player.app) and rename it to what you plan to call your game.
3.) Right click (or if you have a single button mouse, control click) your RGSS Player and choose Show Package Contents.
4.) navagate to the drive_c/rgss_game folder and copy the contents of your project into the folder (but not the enclosing folder itself.)
5.) Inside the RGSS Player there is a Wineskin.app, run it and choose advanced.
6.) Update the name and version string, save and exit.
7.) navagate to your projects contents from RPG Maker, play the new game, or share it with a friend.

*RPG Maker XP for Mac 869.56 MB
*RPG Maker VX For Mac 892.38 MB
*Dropbox Folder Folder

<off topic>how many people do you know that use a hackintosh?</off topic>
now to get back on topic. a couple of years ago people have said the same thing about linux that they believed that "everyone used Windows". You can be surprised at how many people may indeed use a mac. Also note that this topic will be pointed to on a lot of rpg maker forums soon and besides the point is that we now have a mac based rpg maker xp and vx that works 90% to 95% as good as the Windows version, the only quirk I have dealt with is one with the map properties dialog that is annoying but the program is still usable and the odd quirk is not consistant.

i honestly dont know anyone who uses a mac, most my friends use windows for development, then like 2 use Linux. i may be surprised how many people do use it, thats true, im amazed anyone uses it lol. windows is still like 90% of the market.

dont think i was trying to dis you, im quite impressed that you got it to work :D

I use a mac. (Only since like last month, because I needed a new laptop and everyone in my classes has macs, because of the finalcut stuff and just over-all because I actually really like the way their computers work. There's a few things that are simply strange because I'm used to working with Windows. But yeah I guess it's a machine used for certain things and not intended for other things.)

You may be excited to know that the uploads have finished, so you can be making games with rpg maker XP or VX now on your mac. Now to prepare for the following howtos:

1.) Porting your game to Macintosh with a mac
2.) Porting your game to Macintosh with Windows
3.) Porting your game to Macintosh with linux

there's no problem with the filesize being around 850MB, except that this website won't let anyone download more than 400MB (unless they get a premium account). so I can't download and test it. there's probably other hosts that don't have this kind of restriction though (i'm thinking megaupload?)

I don't know... 850MB for just the base program is a bit much. I think the larger filesize for Mac applications is a bit lame either way, but this factors it by what, 1700% ? ^^
The only way I see for Mac people using a RMVXP version regularly is if their only notebook is a Macbook. For that, the filesize is definately too large in my opinion.

I'm sorry for being so damn ignorant on the subject, but I've never touched a Mac on my life. But I believe iPhones run on the iOS. That being said, could you use this to run RMXP or RMVX on an iPhone?
iOS is only the mobile OS, not the one for desktop Macs - those would be OSX currently.

I have noticed that you people have asked if the filesonic download is available without a premium account, even a guest can get it by choosing "slow download". Edit: I guess not. Well, I was thinking of mirroring it on a filefactory free account too. Edit: I now have them up on dropbox and will soon add those links too. Oh, and the 850 MB is a compressed dmg size. I needed to use a tool called wineskin to make it and an (included rgss player app, also via wineskin) a huge chunk of it is directx9 and .Net Framework, both needed. .Net needed to stop crashes of the interface and directx for DirectSound and DirectMusic support so that the music and BGS's work. So the combined image size is for 2 .app files actually.

Looking forward to those links. Thank you for your effort and troubles, kram1024.
