Rough Riders

Rough Riders- the current name for a cowboy western game that I will be working on.

I am new on this forum so sorry if I screw up. I have just started getting the plot ready for beginning on the game and thought I would put it here to get some feedback and advice on if this game would be good or not.

Well lets get down to the plot then

The game starts with a scene in a bar. Many people are fighting and you get bottled in the back of the head ;) The scene fades out and you find yourself in a cave. As you awaken you see a number of men dragging a pretty and wealthy looking woman. Being the hero you are :D you come to her aid. She asks for your name to congratulate you and then all of a sudden you realise. You don't know! The rest of the game follows you and many companions on a quest to find your identity and save towns.

Characters

???- This is the main character. He is quick but not very accurate with his pistol. There is not much known about him but as progress you realise that theirs alot more to him than first believed hint hint

Freya- The pretty girl you see at the start. She is very vague with her description of herself t but you learn enough to know that she is running from her father who wishes to marry her to some unknown bandit. She is slow and unaccurate, but she has been know to lure enemies with her... charm :)

Features

An innovative "dueling system" in which the stat attack is not involved . You are timed to select which part of the enemy to aim at and you can shoot them in the hand to make them change weapon hand and decrease their accuracy.

Gambling- Thats right, you can play western style poker to win money or if this proves to difficult to script at least black jack!

well, that is it for this post but I hope to get back to you with more info

It's simple but solid. Although Freya doesn't sound very Western-ish. Is she a foreign heiress or something?

* Takes out his notebook and jots down this good idea *

Well yes, there is a slight possibility shes foreign but she is not an heiress. There will be some twist invovling her and another man though. lol I better shut up before I give away the whole story :D I might give some things away in the demo.

To be honest the game won't be perfect if you know what I mean but I hope to make a good attempt at a western style RPG

Hmm to be honest this sounds a little cliche. Did you have to have the main character have amnesia? Like every other game has the character have that. I mean not that it can't be a good idea but it's really overused, never mind take into account the reality of it actually happening. It's actually a very rare occurance (except in soap operas where everyone but the dog has it) so it might be something to reconsider. Try maybe making the player just not know about his past instead of the character not knowing. That way he is more mysterious instead of just cliched, which can draw the player in to wantting to know more. Sorta same effect but just a differnt spin.

Western idea though is really cool. I don't think I've seen a RMXP game as one yet. :D Just play with your ideas a little more.

Thanks for that :) I will definately consider reworking my plot as now I think you are right Raven . I want this game to be different so I'll go with that! But since when have RPG's been realistic ??

Well no story is every really 100% realistic. But that doesn't mean you should skip on realism all together. Take for example any sci-fi or fantasy. They obviously have elements to them that are very away from the norm. But they pick and choose what is and isn't. Like the author will portray something unrealstic in a realstic way. Do you know what I mean?

Yeah you can stretch things out a lot since this isn't reality. But pick and choose. But this is really a question of reality as much as it is cliche. Try to remember what is imperative to the story and then go from there. Think about whatever you do for the story and how will it effect it. What is most nessisary for the plot and what it is exactly that you want to portray. Hope that helps you make your decsion. :)
