Robert Jordan Dies

I would have liked it more if it wasn't so long and confusing but he had a good optimistic attitude and he was a decent role model as well so rest in peace ol' buddy!

ah fuck looks like I won't get to read that last book.

It's a shame, I liked his writing, and he seemed like a fantastic guy from everything I'd read of him. What an obscure way to die though.

man when it says he worked on the story until he died i get this image in my head of him leaning over his desk scribbling furiously before taking his last breath, pounding down one final period, and dying on the page

i never read any of his books but i have heard lots of good things about them so i guess this is pretty gay. rest in peace!

This is so sad. RJ has and will remain one of my favorite authors. He has been an inspiration to me as a writer, and I hope one day that my stories will be half as good as his.

@darkfire, i dunno. I started reading one book and got really bored. I also cannot believe he is a very good role model for future authors- hey I've written a 3 book story....bugger it, I'll expand each 3 chapters into a book each. That isn't a very good method of writing and seems to me like a) a money making ploy, b) a lesson in self-satisfaction.

It's some sad news, but at the same time I have to agree with holloway. It took me three tries to get through The Eye of the World, and even then I didn't finish it, just got close to the end and skimmed through. Jordan would have been much higher up on my list of favorite authors if he had restrained himself a bit and not shown so much intent on dragging the series out for as long as he could.

Still, I have a lot of respect for authors, especially ones that can write so much and still stay so dedicated to it all. So it's still very sad, and he'll be missed by a lot of people, I'm sure.

I'm kind of mad because the latest book in the WoT series left so many untied threads, which the last book was going to fix up but now we'll never see it... unless they Tolkeinize it and just finish it based off his notes which would be a BASTARDIZATION.

Why couldn't the author of Harry Potter die? :(

Because she released her final book already. But yeah, I too have never read his books, but it seems like a shame that this happened.

Concerning his book: he was working on it while sick and made sure to tell those closest to him everything he planned to do. Basically, he knew there was a chance of him dying before he finished it and made plans for the book to be finished if this happened.

I actually heard something rather different like a year-ish ago. He said if he died no one was going to finish the book, because he wanted to write it himself. I mean, it makes sense that he was saying that at the time so he could give himself a reason to keep fighting, which is what I take from it.

Got a source on that by chance? Because I'd hate to get my hopes up for something that might turn out to be not true.

RJ was my favorite author. I love his style. I was really sad to hear that he died. I know that someone is finishing the series, but I don't know who.

Really? Wow, never heard that.

I know for sure he told his wife and cousin(? brother?) the entire story a few days before he died - it's on his blog, which I can't seem to reach at the moment. Either it's flooded again or my Internet is acting up.

As for who's going to finish the book, I read a lot of fan speculation but can't remember if it was announced what exactly is going to be done. I'll check again when I can get to the site.
