RMXP won't play non-RTP music files

Hi there,

My problem is pretty straight-forward: RMXP won't play custom (That is, non-RTP) music files either in-game or in the sound-test menu.

I have double checked and the sound files play normally in Winamp and other media players, and RTP music plays fine in the sound-test menu.

Anyone know of a Solution? I previously had both the Postality version and the regular kind, and after uninstalling the postality I ran into some trouble,
SO, I uninstalled the regular RMXP as well, reinstalled it, and continued to run into issues.

Frustrated, I removed EVERY single reference to both programs from the registry and rebooted in hopes that the program could start "fresh".

It appears that has not been the case. While the program installed fine and now runs fine, there remains this one issue. So to reiterate: What solutions are available to fix the music problem?
Just to be sure, I tested it both with an existing game and with a new project, same results either way. I also noted that I had one music file (that was not RTP) in the BGM-list in the sound-test menu,
and it could not be deleted by the Resource Manager.

I KNOW already I probably shouldn't have messed with the Postality Knights version, so if you're gonna come into here simply to berate me about that, save yourself the time and don't.

That might be what it is, because I've tested mp3 files so far, and just to see, I also tried a MIDI file, and THAT
played with no problems. Its odd because none of the mp3 files I've imported have worked... but back when I had both
programs, or just the uh... other one, they played fine.

If that is the case, what Bitrate is recommended?

... and would you happen to know what program I could use to do that with?

The mp3s I've been trying to import have usually been 128kbps.
Dammit, NO mp3s so far have played successfully... *sigh* Great, just great.

Okay, I found an audio converter program and converted a couple files to .ogg, and they started playing fine.

I guess its better then nothing, so thanks for your help Ghost!

Actually, unless you are using Audacity or Super (look for that one as a media converter), you might not be getting the best conversion. Both programs are free, and both are good. Audacity is good if you want to work with audio files, and it allows you to do a little editing as well. Super, on the other hand, can handle pretty much any media, and can convert any type of media to any other format (of the same type). It doesn't even need you to install codecs, becasue it has its own internal codecs. As to your problem with mp3's it might just be a file with some issues. If you want, try converting that .ogg file back to an mp3 and see if it'll play. (And, if you were testing multiple mp3 files, I'm guessing they might be from the same source)
