RMXP: Unexpected File Format

When i tried to open my rmxp project, i got an 'unexpected file format' error. the last time i closed rmxp and my pc i didn't reboot or anything... I can also still playtest my game. I feel frustrated now because i didn't do anything wrong. i hope there's a fairly easy solution for this. I already tried to change the script.rxdata but it didn't help. I have worked about 50 hours on my game since the last back-up...

There isn't much you can do. You'll have to create a new project and copy everything from the data folder into the new project. One or more of the files in your data folder might be damaged and need to be replaced. This has caused so many games to cease production. This is the exact reason I use Dargors Backup system.:

So, in the best scenario, what will i have to redo? and in the worst scenario?
If there's a lot of data lost, i just gonna quit with rmxp. I really loved making my own game, but i simply don't have time to restart.

Best case scenario:Only something like your items.rxdata is damaged.

Worst case scenario: Almost everything is damaged.

If something is damaged it will say "cannot read ***.rxdata. To ease your worries a little, I have had this happen to me about 8 times. Only 2 of the 8 times were serious. Hope that helps. :thumb:

and what aout my maps, can i recover them in a new project?

The best thing to do is to just try, i.e. import them into a new project one by one. It's usually only one file corrupted if this is the error I think it is. That could be just a map, your items, or something major like your scripts.

huh, i copied every single file into a new project and now i didn't get the error. I was also still able to play the game. someone else who had this unexpected file format error wasnt able to do that either o.O weird...

edit: i playtested everything and everything works just fine. So i guess my project is saved. i'm so happy right now :p
i still will use that back-up script though
