.net = no Dragon Kid

.org = Dragon Kid

What do you think? ;)

Seriously, though, I think it's been said a bajillion times already that there wouldn't be much point in bringing .net back. Certainly very nostalgic, but we've come such a long, long way from that. Now we have stable, supportive management, better protection from hacks, expanded community, and lots of cool little features and ideas that are constantly keeping everything active. .org is home.

I wish I was around when people chose the dragon kid... I would've at least attempted to... Something. I'm not a fan of the kid to be honest. The whole gender anonymity, the weird costume, whatever.

And to be honest, .org = .net. Did .net exist because of it's name? No, it existed because of the community, and that same community migrated.

Sure, there was a different guy in charge at .net, and he was probably having trouble paying bills because he was dirt poor (being in college and working a movie theater at the time I believe) and whatever. I don't really prefer one group of management over the other, since really, I would've preferred they both would've stayed around, since now we have this air of conflict about it.

Also: I miss Cleric :< And InsomniacMG. His avatar was great.

Great fantastic needle through the tongue, grayscale minus the blood, always a pleasure to see him post just because of his imagery

Really? I miss Blade.

I sense sarcasm. But really though, how could you not miss Blade? And Serith. WHERE OH WHERE DID MY SERITH GO.

Seriously though, all the old moderating staff is twelve times better than the people here: Evega, Prexus, RPG_Advocate, DZ, Erk (yeah they were mods at one point), uh... Showkaizer! And... Hm.... Me I guess? I'm missing quite a few, fill in the blank time!

I prefered the graphic feedback on .NET than .ORG in all honesty. But then again, it was a lot less organised. Graphics had to be found via topics as apose to a download manager, making life harder for the searcher.

But i don' know, I just prefered the way a finished resource could get direct comments - As it seems the only reason people browse and comment resources in the download manager is when they want or have recieved something.

Dude, you know you are allowed to post finished resources in Analysis as well? That is just not where you should post them to be shared... only if you want feedback.

You know Andy, I was a mod at .net TOO.

Damn you to hell Andy. Damn you to hell.

And wasn't Serith the one who bombed the forum?

And isn't the mod staff here basically the same group - two or three and + two or three others?

Hmm...

Yeah you've been the longest lasting staff member, though your general activity has its ups and downs!

But seriously, at that one point where LG went on a recruiting run and modded like 15 people, I can't remember who exactly they were, and I want to know, because I think like 8 of them just up and dissapeared.

Evega/Ionem/Despain, Prexus, myself, RPG Advocate, Dark Zero, and I can't remember if Showkaizer was initially modded in that bunch or later. I think that was it, although I may have missed one.

In all honesty, .net was a huge headache, particularly after being admined and realizing how little control over the ultimate fate of the forum we really had. It was dying by inches, what with the enormous server lag, huge security holes, absent management (we literally went months without hearing a word from him, although he'd been online elsewhere), and the looming inevitability of the hosting lapsing and us with no way to get a backup or move the forums elsewhere. It was a nightmare, truly.

.Org may be under "new" management, but the fact was that Erk, and later Erk and myself, had been effectively running .net (albeit with both hands and our shoelaces tied) for months before the new forum was created. And it is, as has been mentioned repeatedly, the same community. It's nothing more than a domain name change - if we went back to being rmxp.net today, nothing would change except people would have to update their bookmarks. If it had remained .net, then this community would no longer exist, and all that we have done here would never have happened. A sad thought.

.net did feel a lot different :(
Maybe it was just the timing, that a lot of revolutionary stuff was happening, there were loads of fantastic scripts around, there were always interesting things happening. The Symposium was a lot more fun in those days too :p There was the phase when people just shouted at each other; then a while when the only thing anyone ever talked about was gay sex... Sigh... Shortly after the move to .org, things were great too. I remember that I hardly ever had the chance to be online, but things really started to get going with the finished games - Outlaw City felt like such a breakthrough for me ^_^ Master of the Wind amazed me, and so did Nadir's Cannon. But for a long time it seemed like they got put on hold.

I don't know though, it's felt to me like .org's been in decline for a long time. A fair few of the more colourful members that I remember either left or were banned (XD). The community just doesn't seem to have the same vibrance any more. The RGSS Suport forum, when I do visit, seems to be filled with endless 'Error with Prexcraft' and 'Error with Near's ABS' threads. I feel like RMXP has, in a way, lost impetus. Maybe it's just a short period in between huge events, but I do feel like something's missing.

When Near's Engine, Game Maker Studio, comes out, I'm going to devote myself to writing things for that. I think breaking down those last limits can really push game making forward again, (even if it's not on RMXP ^_^)

Huitzil, I suspect we are just in a lull between big things. As you may note, .org's software and site have been rapidly changing, and this is just part of some stuff we have that will give the community an overdue burst of funness.

Funness. Gah. Living in Japan is bad for one's vocabulary.

Based on the only criterion she is qualified to judge on: she prefers the name.

so, LG has another site hey? http://www.lordgradient.com was built around the time LG came back here and said he was gone for good, and he stopped updating it... about a month later. He makes me feel really stable and reliable. Not that he is a bad guy, I just find it amusing
