rmxp has stopped working

I've been using rmxp for a few months now without any problems, but recently, if i try to open rpg maker i get a pop-up that says "rpg maker xp has stopped working" (i'm using vista) and if i try to open a game it will say rgss player has stopped working. I just randomly got this error while trying to open rpg maker. Can anybody help me fix this?

I had issues with RMXP working on WINDOWS Vista too. Your problem may be one of several issues:

1. Have you completed the trial period? I'm sure you did, but some people don't realize that after the 30-day trial period, RMXP and RGSS will stop working.

2. Did you check the compatability issue? I had to do this when I got a new PC and installed with VISTA. When you check the actually RMXP file, righ-click on the application and go to "PROPERTIES". There should be an option there that allows you to adjust the program's compatability for different versions of WINDOWS.

3. When in doubt, RESTART. That's what my PC savvy friends tell me. 9 times out of 10, this may help correct the problem.

Those would be the only reasons I can think of. Like I said, I had to adjust the program for compatability too when I bought my new PC.

Hope this helped you.

Did you try to run RPG Maker XP as administrator? Right click on the short cut to XP, and select "Run as administrator". Im using Vista, and I need to do this everytime I run XP. This should work.

Also, try to repair the program from the setup menu, but that's a weak opinium.

Does this happen when you try to open a project you've downloaded...? I've encountered a problem like this, and I moved the project folder to Documents (or basically a "friendly" file folder) and I was able to open it up... I, too, have Vista. I only had to "Run as Administrator" once, now I just have a shortcut to it... unfortunately I cannot remember how that came to be...

...if it'll let you.  Tried doing that to one of our machines here at home.  The damn thing Would.  Not.  Remove.  Vista.

No matter what we tried.

try backing up your files to a dvd or removable storage and just wiping the bloody thing clean. you can boot to a windows xp install cd and run the setup, and then format the disc. it should work.
