[RMXP] Events without main character involved (story telling)

Hello hello,

I have a question regarding RMXP.
I have done some tutorials, and I get all the stuff about movign characters, events and so on. But there is something I'd like some more information on. In some cases you don't want to control the main character but you want him to move by himself or you don't want to display him at all, and still you want to move the "camera" over a field showing stuff and telling some things about the story.

Is there a way to control the camera without having to move the character, and let events go of at specific time/checkpoints without your character having to move on an event?

I am sorry if this has been asked before but I couldn't find anything related.

Thanks a lot

For the moving camera thing you can use the  Scroll Map command. [page 2]
If you want your main character to dissappear you can use the Change Graphic [page 3] command and set it to none.

To "hide" the main character, you can use Change Transparent Flag (page 2, left hand column of Event Commands).

Also on the same page is Set Move Route, which you can use to control the movements of the player, NPCs, or any other events. There is also an option in Set Move Route to change the transparency (255 is fully visible, 0 is invisible, and anything in between for see-through "ghost" effects), or to completely change the graphic, along with the standard movement options.

Again on the same page is Scroll Map, which lets you pan the camera a specific number of tiles and at a specific speed.

You can use any combination of the three (as well as other techniques) to create cutscenes. Good luck!
