[RMVX] I Shall Steal All of the World's Crystals

I'm with this project all the way, marcus. The fact that I could play as a She-man makes this even more interesting. Keep up the good work!

@Some of you other haters
If the author isn't asking for help on the lead, don't give any. That simple. Marcus doesn't need to fix what isn't broken.

This is one of the most unrevealing armor sets this game has if I recall. Maybe the warrior one is more. But this is what i mean.

Thank you for your advice, seriously, but armor doesn't work that way.  Traditional armor of any type (whether it's leather or metal) is inlaid with soft padding because the stuff is incredibly uncomfortable to wear.  Armor was also design as a "size-fits-all" deal.  A breastplate for a male looks the exact same as a breastplate for a female (although females didn't traditionally wear armor except notable exceptions like Jean D'Arc).  Those pictures still follow the stereotype of form fitting armor and it looks like a tattoo painted on the skin as opposed to actual clothing.

I never expected so much controversy to arise over the gender of a single character but hey whatever.  I've been working on this pretty fast so expect a demo or something by this weekend or next.

-To advance in the game, you must purchase information.  By doing quests, you gain clues and pay off informants to learn where the next crystal is located.
Any chance that some quests will be mercenary missions where you will be paid good money for it?

If you want me to go scrounging up armor from movies that people have used. I could easily find some that prove otherwise that armor does not fit all.

Why would a woman want her breast to be squished in a breastplate that is inlaid close to the chest like a male does, they feel more pain being hit there with that armor, without it adjusted to some degree, think about chain mail, its form fitting. And yes, most armor of the leg area tends to be exactly the same as males. It isn't a matter of protection qualities, most women would not have worn armor in the first place because it was not adjusted, either to big for their smaller body structure, or simply uncomfortable to wear.

However most breast plates made of steel have their chest. Here is a real life example, I'm trying to point out real facts about life, you just can't fit a woman into armor that looks like this... Look at the one on the right sides.

because they have special breastplates that look like the one on the left.
I hope this makes more sense, I'm only asking you to reconsider editing the sprites chest area to look less like male armor and more like female armor. I've never said I was against this project in any shape or form. I did not feel the need to help someone out of my own free will though, then there is something wrong it's like everyone on this site isn't entitled to their opinions and has to have some stereotyped mind set like a brainwashed prisoner of war. It's an opinion, I'm giving him real examples used by real people, companies, games, and anime... to prove my point, you don't like it, ignore it and move on. I'm simply here to help, but most likely not for long if this is how people treat you when you try to help. For now, I'm through with this topic, I'm not going to try and help him any more, if he doesn't get the point he is stubborn and you can't change a stubborn person easily, and I sure am not going to try.

Although I'm generally in support of your sentiment (I hate bikini armor on female characters) I have to catch you here - to the contrary, plate armor has to be custom made and fitted to the individual wearing it.  It's quite the opposite of one size fits all for exactly the reasons you mention; it's uncomfortable and rigid and for any kind of mobility to be achieved it must be tailor made to the exact proportions of its wearer.  One had to get plate armor refitted just due to weight changes in fact.  Even things you'd think would be fairly flexible like chain maille have to be tailored to a general size be very functional - and I know that from experience, because I spent some time making the stuff as a hobby.  It will chafe like a motherfucker if it's too big, or heaven forbid, too small, or interfere in various and obnoxious ways with your ability to function.  Most of what you'd call one-size-fits-all would be the crappy boiled & studded leather type armor the flunkies wore, if they were fortunate enough to be given armor at all which often didn't happen, and it certainly was at least half as much a curse as a blessing if they were of a non-standard body shape.

Also granted all armor is going to be big and puffy, but for larger breasted women you will almost certainly see some adaptations in the armor shape, just like you'd have a sloped, rounded gut on a fat man's armor.  I'm also not implying that nobody in history wore poorly fitted armor, but they certainly suffered for it.

Anyway I don't care a bit about the controversy, for all I care your main character has a flat chest and doesn't need the extra space, she's certainly otherwise very masculine.  Try to temper your hate for retarded-ass sexist video game conventions with a realistic grasp of anatomy though, it will only help you in the end! :D

(maybe we can split into a discussion thread about armor in a more appropriate place)

Well, if person A tries to help person B, person B rejects person A's help, but person A then persists in trying to help person B, it will often lead to crap. Also, you have at least twice now made statements that heavily implies your position is wiser than Marcus'. That's another good way to receive negative feedback.

Frankly, usually when someone on this board tries to help another, he/she will at worst get no feedback at all. That you received negative feedback is by no small part your own fault.

I think the sprite is okay, MArcus already said that one of the recurrent joks of the game is that others think the heroine is male, so it has to look like a guy, right?
plus Marcus never said it was a beautiful female, or a big breasted one.

Oh, hush. It's not always all about you, you know. We're not somehow crushing your opinion by stating ours. Just walk it off, and stop being so melodramatic. :x

The final word, though, is that this Alex dude is a tomboy. How do you expect a tomboy to go out of her way to appear feminine while still staying in character?

(Also, games and anime shouldn't colour your decisions when we're talking about realism. Game companies and anime artists know full well that skin sells, which is how we end up with "sun and fun" chainmail that leaves some very fragile regions of the body bare, yet somehow still imparts a defense bonus. I never understood, for instance, why in Final Fantasy 12 Fran never seemed to get hit in the midriff and die, especially since such an attack would be relatively easy to execute regarding her skin-to-armor ratio.)

Okay, armor controversies aside let me throw her figures out so you get a sense of what she looks like from an anatomical perspective.

She is 5'8" 160lb with an average muscular build and 22% body fat which is pretty low for a woman of her size, age, and height.  She can bench 200 pounds.  She has size B breasts and a 32" waist.  She wraps her breasts with cloth and tape as padding for her armor.

Try to temper your hate for retarded-ass sexist video game conventions with a realistic grasp of anatomy though, it will only help you in the end!
As far as her body structure is, female and male skeletons are almost identical except a male has thicker joints and a female's pelvis is slightly wider and curves downwards (which gives them that hourglass figure).  I know because I have an anatomy book opened up right in front of me.

Alex is built like an 18 year old athletic boy.  She keeps her hair cut short so it doesn't get caught or tangled and she doesn't give a fuck about her outer appearance because when you're raiding tombs and fighting flesh eating monsters it doesn't matter that your hair is silvery and sparkly HOLY SHIT I CANNOT BELIEVE I AM JUSTIFYING THE APPEARANCE OF A 32x32 SPRITE.

oh yea, new screenshot is up and I'll probably be updating the character list tonight.

Can we forget about seeing 16-bit tatas and let Marcus make his cool game? Please?

EDIT: My, that is an affordable gorget.

Now you're just getting carried away!  Also, big laugh at Dr. Opinion's melodrama.  Seriously get back to work on the game, we'll think about the anatomy of your tomboy main character during nice private moments before bed.  Sure... Yeah.

This is a woman from manga 'Dorohedoro' and if she passed as a woman, I don't see any problem with Alexus :P

It's good to see manly woman once in a while ;)

As for the game, I hope once you change characters' classes, you'll still be able to change them back to their previous classes, right? Or it's permanent?

It's permanent.  Character classes work like they do in Seiken Densetsu 3.  Each character has a class tier (tier 1, tier 2, etc.) and when you meet the requirements, you choose one of two classes for each tier.  I specifically point out the pros and cons of each clash.  For example, Alex starts off as an Explorer which is a default warrior.  You could go for her charismatic Leadership branch with classes such as Guildwright and Overseer which teaches her rally moves that improves everyones abilities or demoralizes the enemies or you can go down her Explorer path with classes like Tomb Raider and Thrillseeker which increase her agility and have survival based skills like regenerating health.

I think you should change the the crystals idea to something else and make more than four of them. Is it just me or has anyone else here played a lot of games about four crystals, usually for earth, fire, wind and water, that are needed for various reasons usually to save the world?
Apart from that it looks good i cant wait to play it. By the way, do u know that she's a girl at the start of the game or do you find out later?
