Is there any way to run VX at a resolution lower than 1024x768? I'm using a laptop with a resolution of 1024x600, if this is in any way relevant.

Seems like some dude called Wiaytt (or whatever his name is) had this problem awhile ago. You can check out his solution here, although it may not work for VX.
