Remove white behind a character

Hey I was wondering if i download a character and it has a white backround behind it(not just on the sprite sheet i mean like the character graphic in game shows up with white behind it) how can i get rid of it? is it posible to? if i need to redownload a character and do it diferently then i will.

Edit: I found out how to fix my problem thanks to rpgamer

sigh...i would get it but heh i am only a child of the household and so require permission of my parents...believe my they keep track of nearly everything i do on the computer...is there posibly another way or using another program?

oh they let me get that...i had to pay them obviously but they arent about ready to fork up even the smallest amount of money just for a photo editing program...yeah we arn't the richest family and kinda at hard times right now but both my parents are back at college to finish what they didn't and hopefully within the next 5 years we will be back on the road...although ill be outa here by then but oh well. well that was a lovely story to say with no point to it...

I know someone who can get you it, if you have $20 to spare ._.

(note: The way i get it is legit, so don't be saying it's not)

20 bucks for photoshop? Somehow I doubt thats legal.

Don't forget to save your character set as a PNG!

PS. If you have any further problems PM me the graphic, I have photoshop.

okay, what you have to do is this.
1.Save the file as PNG,
2. open up your RMXP project,
3.click on the icon of the resource manger. next to database.,
4.go to the battler tab,
5. click import.
6. find the graphic on your computer
7. A box should come up. right, click and left click on the background.
8. click OK.
9. go to the datbase and make your character

Easiest way is...

Photoshop - Select<Color Range<Sampled Colors<Ok<'Delete key' (be sure to have the white selected using the ... you know tool

Yet you can download Gimp for free legally
