Religious game, or at least theme

So my project will have a religious theme. I am wondering what you guys all think about the premise.

Basically, it is set around Christianity, who have become the world's largest religion. A new Holy Roman Emperor rules the Earth. (It is set a hundred years into the future).

A rebel group have formed, calling themselves Dawkins' Army, who the player is a part of.

At first it just seems like your generic battle against Christianity, from a cool-cat Atheist, but there's a twist which I'm gonna say because that's the concept I am trying to work out:

- Christianity KNOWS that the world was not created in 7 days, in fact they know the real truth, that Atheists haven't come close to.
- They are hiding the truth from the world, which was why Christianity was created in the first place.

The player defeats Christianity quite early on (well, perhaps half way through the game), and the big bad thing comes out (I have not decided what yet) that the Holy Roman Emperor was trying to hide you from.

In short it is another Knight's Templar shindig, except it turns out the KT were actually bad guys, trying to unleash a great terror on the world that Xianity was trying to cover up.

BUT: i think you might offend Christians with this story. Maybe you should create a religion that just resembles Christianity?
AND: Why would anyone want to unleash great terror in the world? I think the i-hate-the-world-so-i-destroy-it-baddies suck.

Well, I wanted to keep it very connectable to the player, so all the events in it would be as close to real life as possible. But then I guess people are easily offended like that.

That might've been interesting or shocking way back when SMT was doing it on the SNES, but games centered around the concept of taking down organized religion these days is far more cliche and overdone. "Gasp! The religious officials we've trusted for so long are actually deceitful bastards!" is a trope that's been used in pratically every jrpg from 2000 on.

honestly this seems like every psx-era rpg ever, except the obvious stand-in for christianity is actually called christianity.

I guess I should have made an Introductory post before posting this, sorry I will learn for a future.

I am thinking something like the gunpowder plot, but more futuristic. Only the figureheads (the Pope, the Holy Roman Emperer, and so on).

Oh and believe me I'm not trying to be controversial or anything. I was more intrigued by the aspect of a large corporation, or institution, or religion, being formed just to hide something big, like how we were all created.

So instead of gunpowder they use some futuristic substance, like gunsemen, right? And how the fuck does the gunpowder plot relate to this? Is some guy gonna' blow christanity up with a jizz bomb and get thrown on a fire?

No, just the idea of a group of guys taking out the establishment by exploding them from a hidden tunnel, something like that.
