Release of RMXP-ISO (Isometric Movement)

Wow. I just some some work that someone is doing with a 3D engine and RMXP. Impressive stuff. Anywho... i was hoping to release my own game this last January, but i have a laundry list of things to do and want to get this out there for people to use if they so desire:

RMXP-ISO:

- Over 100 Characters with full 8-Directional movement and 8-D graphics
- Around 2 dozen bosses with full 8-Directional movement / graphics.
- Around 1 dozen isometric tilesets.

This is the first time that this is being released. The tilesets were ripped from a half dozen commercial and online games by myself. The charsets were ported by myself to rmxp format and are the original work of an artist by the name of Reiner. The bosses come from various places, but many of them have been re-colored, etc... so will be better than finding them elsewhere. The movement script is included and was created by Draycos Goldaryn.

looks are all swell and good....

but when you actually open up your favorite program (RMXP) and are used to 4-directional analog movement... and can suddenly wander around in 8 directions... and have NPC's and enemies wandering around and moving toward you in all 8 directions...

its a good feeling :D

FreewareFiles.com has it up now... here... http://www.freewarefiles.com/RMXP-ISO_p ... 49404.html

i'm pretty happy that it has 30 hits already. i'd be happy to offer whatever support i can. though if you open up a few of the events ... and study some of the Common Events ... i'm sure most will get a pretty good idea of how things are (can be) animated (as far as talking, attacking, using magic, etc.).
.

I thought this would be great if you could use a mouse to control movement and activate events and then noticed there was a mouse input script in the script section. Is this supposed to be active already when you playtest or is that something I need to work out for myself and is just there for my convenience?
Nice work, by the way!

Wow... This is amasing.

Its a shame that its hard to Sprite ISO titlesets tho.. =/

But other than that.. its awsome =]

thanks man.

the good news there is that there is a TON 'o sprites already... and you could always do some Franken-Spriting. I tried my hand with the jackass and the club weilding cave man and came up with a centaur. I only bothered to Franken 4 movement directions though... so that guy is set up to only walk around in 4 directions :D i'd love to see someone frankensprite the red spider with the red archer though. i may have to get around to it. i also wanted to throw those angel wings on a few creatures...

Of Course, anyone is welcome to do what they want with the resources. Though there would be commercial limitations. I'd really like to see how someone else might be able to use the tilesets as far as mapping goes. i have "Flat Earth" syndrome... and am sure someone could do a better job mapping with these resources. Though a Map has been created for all the major tilesets if you open the project in the RMXP Editor. One map is 'playable' immediately for convenience. Other maps you'd have to at least un-select the map music so that you could take a look at those while in playing mode.

that 'mouse script' may just be some component of the add-on that a few people put together. the only mouse demos that i have seen were 'quirky', at best. so i've stayed away from that thus far. it sounds like i should make a more helpful demo. if you check out the Common Events in Editor mode you'll see that the current setup is for a,s,and d to be the primary, secondary, and terciary attack buttons in combat... but the animation seqences are the important part... so if you wanted the mouse button(s) to activate a certain attack and are up to the task of incoorporating a mouse script... (which might also be difficult 'cuz i think i've only seen 4 direction movement mouse demos)... then the mouse could be used instead of the arrow keys and the a,s, and d keys.

i shall try to put together a very short demo (to demonstrate some of the finer points of the RMXP-ISO release) with perhaps just one chipset and couple of characters to demonstrate movement, actions, and combat. i shall try not to take forever in doing so. wish me luck :thumb:

damn, brotha, how hard is it to get someone's name right? thats just a common courtesy.

but it's a fair question. you've seen something similar when it was relaeased with 4 - Directional analog movement.

First there was RMXP-WOW expansion pack that had just half of the isometric Tilesets now available. It also contained a bunch of garbage.

Then there was RMXP-EVO expansion pack which contained the isometric Tilesets ripped by myself as well as the analog movement of Reiner's characters .. ported by myself to RMXP format.

The most recent release is RMXP-ISO expansion pack which brings true 8 - Directional movement fully supported by isometric graphics (once again, Reiner's work, painfully ported to RMXP format by myself), the best selection of Tilesets yet, and the fully incoorporated 8-D movement script by DraycosGoldaryn.

The question is, my brotha, how many nice Isometric games have you seen made with RMXP? If the answer is 'not many' then its precisely because you havn't seen this before.

Why is it that all the character's attack poses are only 4 directional? Other than that, it's very good.

thanks man.

you've deffinitely pointed out something noteworthy. The current battle system (like most RMXP action-battle systems) is 4-Directional. The diagonal attack animations wouldn't be that difficult to plug in. Just quite time consuming unless you have a battle system that will support them. Ur talking about sorting through 1000 pictures or more for each character... with over 100 characters...

i settled for 8-Directional movement. it seemed like a step in the right direction.

but i have been making these Isometric chipsets / Tilesets since long before anyone even thought of having the analog fellows move diagonally
