Hey to all of you. I'm Josh and this is my first post on this forum. This is also (hopefully) my first serious project. I'm something of a writer, and the more technical aspects of RPG Maker escape me, so I'm looking for help in mapping and scripting and all of that stuff.
Alright, now that that's out of the way, on to the story.
The kingdom of Dalen is a medium-sized kingdom surrounded on all sides by its enemies. Its king, Reginald, is an oppressive tyrant. The poor starve, and are taxed so heavily that they barely have enough to get by. The young and healthy are drafted into the army and other, more secretive branches and sent to die in Reginald's constant military campaigns. Crime is rampant, and the government is filled to the brim with corruption.
About 30 years into his rule, the destitution reaches a climax. Certain highly-ranked members of the military (led by an as of yet unnamed general. Suggestions are great) and other parts of the government see this as a chance to seize power. They gather loyal soldiers and buy off the less loyal with the King's own money. They send agents to instigate the peasants and organize them into rebellion. Finally, when the stage is set, the general hires a highly skilled group of mercenaries, led by a man named Lance. Their job is to sneak into the castle and assassinate the king during the confusion of the attack. However, they don't know about the king's secret weapon.
Starting perhaps 12 years ago, the king and his court mage Archibald began experimenting on prisoners of war. They discovered that, through a combination of physical torture and magical alteration, they could create supermages called Daemons (preliminary name, again, suggestions are wonderful). These Daemons are incredibly magically powerful, but are left warped mentally and physically from the method of creation. They are sadistic creatures, and take intense pleasure in the pain of others. They are fiercely loyal to Reginald and Archibald, but everyone else, even allies, are fair game.
Due to the presence of one of these creatures and a man named Bart, Reginald survives the assassination attempt and escapes with his life. He escapes with his court mage Archibald to a secret stronghold filled with an army of Daemons, where he plots to retake his throne. He creates an elite group of daemons to hunt Lance down and eliminate him in order to keep his survival a secret.
Meanwhile, the unnamed general has taken control of the kingdom and is burning bridges behind him. He is eliminating everyone who had to do with the planning of the coup, including Lance. He has declared them traitors to the Kingdom, loyal to the (supposedly) late King Reginald. Secretly, he has hand-picked the best soldiers in the Kingdom to find and eliminate King Reginald. Little does he know that he is protected by possibly the most dangerous force the world has ever seen.
Lance awakens in a run-down inn, half-dead and seperated from his friends. He is being hunted by two equally deadly foes. Plagued with guilt from his past, he struggles to survive in a world filled with death and corruption. Will he flee, or try to earn his redemption?

Lance- Ex commander of King's army alongside childhood friend Bart. Resigned in shame of orders he carried out (to be developed throughout story). Enters self-imposed exile. Approached by estranged brother Adam with offer to join mercenary group. Accepts. Jumps at chance to assassinate Reginald. Brings Adam and friend Jon along.
Bart- Right hand man of King Reginald. Patriot who is secretly guilty of actions comitted alongside Lance. Does not suspect Daemon plot.

Jon- Member of mercenary group. As a child, was captured by Reginald during military campaign. One of first to be experimented on by Archibald. Tortured brutally. Experiment failed. All magical potential burned out. Escaped. Seeks revenge on both Archibald and Reginald
There's more to come for the other characters and such. I also have an impromptu script for the first scene if y'all are interested.
