recovering lost loot.

ok the idea is simple but not sure how to go about doing it. say i set up a mock battle against some thieves. now... if you win that battle they run away but if you lose a scene shows you getting beat up and they take away an item and or gold. my question is how would i go about making a chest some place remember all the items you lost to the thieves? i can do gold with variables but items im not sure on.
 
One idea you can do is creating another variable, then setting that variable to the ID of an item you lost. Later, when you want to recover an item, use Conditional Branches to check the variable and give the appropriate item.

This might be a bit annoying if you have a lot of stolen items, because you'll have to create multiple variables.
 
my thoughts exactly...  think this might be better suited for a script? the lost item doesnt have to be stolen in battle and i plan on using this as a way to keep players from entering an area i dont want them to go to yet so they may have a lot of items stolen...
