Rate this music from 1-100!!!!! It would be for a boss battle! I used FL Studio.

Dude, you posted a link to the Resource Analysis board.

EDIT:
Now that you have the right link, I'll comment.

It starts out pretty good.  I like the build in tension.  All of this is solid.  I don't like the decision to use the distorted lead without pause for the rest of the piece without pause, plus its mixed too loud for its surroundings.  And you really only had it do two riffs, and just copied and pasted.  I would have liked to see more variety, contrasting sections in the middle, stuff like that.  And I'm guessing the current ending is temporary?

I'm going to give it a 65/100.  It wasn't bad, but much more could have been done with it.  I just didn't feel like it went anywhere in particular.

Thanks for your critic. I also find a lot of things I could have done better with this, I just wanted to know if I'm being too picky or if I'm right, because lately everything sounds bad to me. But I couldn't really understand most of your critics... What do you mean by "the distorted lead without pause?", and "the rest of the piece without pause"? Then what's "too loud for its surroundings"? About the repetitivity, I know, and the transitions kinda sucked... Too calm, then too violent... And what is "constrasting sections in the middle"? Sections with different feelings in the middle of the song? The ending, you think it should have more tension, can you be more specific please? And most importantly, where can I learn how to mix right using FL Studio? How did you learn, or where is a good tutorial? Because I really don't know anything about mixing, I just mess around with the volumes...

The distorted lead was used from about a quarter of the way through the song to the end, and it got a bit obnoxious.  Sorry, I wrote that a bit awkwardly, I guess I wasn't paying close enough attention.  When I said too loud for its surroundings, I meant it was mixed too loudly compared to the other instruments.  It should be easy enough to edit that, just turn down the volume on the track.  I just mean a section with a different feel when I say contrasting sections.  I'm not saying completely change emotions, but maybe back off on the intensity temporarily, or something along those lines.

For the ending, I'm saying right now it ends on a note that just sounds a bit random, and doesn't really loop well at all.  But the way you end should be up to your own discretion, you composed this piece, not me.

Being picky about your own work is good though.  It shows that you actually want to grow as a composer.

I hope I was more articulate in my points this time.  I'm a bit out of it tonight, I guess.

I liked it until we got the the distorted guitar thing. Too much of it.... using it occasionally is ok, maybe have it cut in and cut out, but i liked the darker creepier part in the beginning better. ... sans the piano.

Battle themes are very emotional, many times very dramatic yet still very balanced with what they give out. They should give the person a sense of an extra 'drive' while playing, with an upbeat rhythm and as a must, a catchy melody. Your start was very good to be honest, but then it leaked out into a dischord. The guitar was a bit over-the-top, and I couldn't raise the volume enough to hear the other instruments. I'm assuming you are proud of your work, as all composers are. I've felt the same way as well many times, and still when you receive a different view from other people than you expected, it makes you look differently at your piece. Battle themes take time to perfect, but this sound is very familiar because i've been there as well. : p  50/100

i agree, the begining was awesome but then it was too slow, i think it needs more changess, less distort and more surprises lowering and elevating the tension of the music make us feel adrenaline like a rollercoaster,  remember its a boss.

ill give you 65/100 :) id love to see the final result

The first part was great, it would fit really nice in a dungeon :thumb:

But i don't like the rest of the music with that guitar :S

Ill give it an 80/100 for the first part, and a 50/100 for that guitar, so that will make 65/100

ok i tried to change, and... it only gets worse. when i said those things were wrong... i now realise they are not really that wrong. you just hate this kind of music, you must. i can hear all the intruments, and it doesn't seem too distorted. try listenign to a song by linkin park called faint. i bet you say its too distorted too. and my music does have calm parts(in the end) and active parts. in my opinion...

edit: after all it was because i was using headphones and you probably were not that you couldn't distinguish the different sounds.

No, i don't hate rock music, I also listen to linkin park. But this music is really too distorted. maybe you should erase that high beep, that will help a lot. And that guitar plays the same loop every time, it might be an idea to put some variation in it, or just add some other instruments, but erase that high beep :S

So again: I like rock music, but not an annoying beep and a guitar playing the same loop !

Dude, listen to shizu, what shizu says is right sometimes as musicians we believe that what we do i correct no matter what but when ppl gives you their opinion and every1 thinks alike its because there are reasons for them to say so. Im a rocker myself i love harder music than linkin park. im a musician and i love all kinds of rock music thats the music i listen to. just take in mind that this is a song about a final battle forget about making a comercial song, as a rock song its a decent one but still the other instruments cannot be heard so lower the volume level of the guitar, as a final battle song it lacks on the needed feelings and adrenaline it must create

Remember as a final boss battle song it must feel like a rollercoaster, lowering and elevating the tension of the adrenaline, thats the feeling it needs

its well written for the most part but i would rethink the vsti choices, slayer is a pretty mediocre guitar, and if youre intent on using it, i would definitely tweak the settings.

ok im trying to improve that and i never really tried vsts cuz i only figured out what they were 2 days ago. never liked fl slayer a lot, i use more sytrus, but i wanted to make a music with it, and this was the first i did using fl slayer. its weird because it clips very easily so its hard to synchronize with with the beat presets, as the kicks which are very low and i need to make the volume really high in their mixer channel. anyway i guess its better right now, i think the most annoying thing is a long part which really only loops 4 times but it seems like more because its long. i think if i make it play only twice it will not be so annoying. ill see what i can do.

oh but i disagree about making the song faster. boss battles dont really need to be fast, in my opinion, it's an option. you can make great midly paced boss music and great fast music too. its not only about adrenaline, as you may want to make the enemy more intimidating, or a lot of other things.

Are you talking about me?

Ok...as a musician to another...here is my advice take it or leave it:
1.) If you have to use the distorted guitar, especially slayer, turn it down and don't make it so prominent...UNLESS it is playing a melody at some certain point.
2.) Definitely use some vst...there are some really good free ones out there.  Just look around, they can really enhance the quality of the song.
3.) This is just my suggestion...but throw some horns or piano in there playing a melody over the distorted guitar, and use a lot of half-step drops, it will give it a real menacing feel.  I've found that songs in any harmonic minor key are really good for boss battles.

I really liked it at first, but it got annoying after a while.  And it gets kind of buzzy towards the end.
Put in a bit more variability and give the guitar a few rests.

hey i improved it still not final version but:

http://www.nowupload.com/:eek:Z6

u dont even have to download it now

i get very mixed reactions from people but for me it doesn't seem that violent, neither does the beep bleed my ears... i think at first it did, but maybe now im used to it? anyway bleeding ears would be a cool bad feeling during a battle...

so, hows it now?
