Quick Title Screen (Rarefaction)

If that's supposed to be blood a nice effect that makes it look fresh/wet is putting the red drops through the plastic wrap filter in Photoshop. But set it on the lower end. Fudge around with it and it can make blood look awesome.

I was going for a more cartoon-y kind of blood - but your input is muchly appreciated! ^_^

I would have used Plastic Wrap, but well, it makes it look too plastic-y I guess, not like a liquid.
I did however consider this when I read the replies a few hours ago.

So yeah, guys, keep in mind - Plastic Wrap looks like Plastic... ;) ^_^
If I were to make it look more liquid-like, I'd sponge it with low settings to give it a little difference between colors, a bit of pallette knife to make it look like some is soaked into the background (like a stain), also to make it a little neater, and FINALLY finish with a very slight Plastic Wrap.
Plastic Wrap itself wouldn't do the job well at all... ;)

Well for cartoon-like blood I beleive it looks alright. The single shaded blood does stand out a bit too much though. Perhaps adding additional shaeds of 'cartoon-like' colors will fix that. I also don't like the red wavey thing in the background. You have Smeared blood in the foreground as well as some text and then wavey red in the back, personally I don't think it looks all that fancy. But if used for a comedy type game I think it would be fine.

Actually, I'm glad you mentioned the background, I'll have to remember this when I update the title screen ,thanks for the tip ;)

I'll also try to vary the shades of blood. ^_^

Well if you're looking for a more "stained" effect then you'll have to something a little differnt yes. Soaked blood should not have a "plastic wrap" effect. But if you are looking more for fresh large droplets of blood (along the lines of pools of it) it works good. If it's heavily splattered blood then it's much too thin of a spray and would easily get soaked up so there would not be a liquid shine to it but rather a more translusent look.

Anyways for the heck of it here's an example of a blood droplet using the plastic wrap effect that I did on a wallpaper of mine:

If you do it very lightly then it doesn't look overly plasticy like it can be if you just use the default settings. This kinda of droplet is more for areas like tables and such. If it's along walls or carpet it should soak more. Hope that helped ya out. :D

Yeah, it still looks plastic-y though...
Looks a bit solid... I may need to re-think my filter choice again ^_^
But that doesn't matter, because I like figuring out new things in photoshop.

Okay, I have to go to school very shortly, but this arvo, I'll try to re-create your picture of blood, but have it look a tiny bit less solid :) ^_^

If you can i want you to make me a title and gameover screen :)

Title:
Name: The Lost Story
Dont really know what i want, but id like the round thingy in the end of this text some thing like that in the title :D

i had a go at your title
what do you think?

it's worse...

If you're gonna use a blood spatter photoshop brush and you really want to work fast and lazy, try use a gradient overlay w/ bevel and emboss. it's kinda cheating but it'll be better then what you have. also, ditch the pink. If you want it to be red and bloody, that tint of red is just not gonna work for you.

I would just layer a darker red/brown underneath the brighter red in the foreground. I've seen alot of things that don't need highlights and lowlights to make it look creepy and bloody. I think the other thing is your choice of background - it looks like a pink sheet. Intentional? Regardless, the blood should flow with the fabric, not just lay flat. Possibly choosing a different background with make all the difference in the world.

I'm VERY tired of seeing bloody title screens. But then again I don't really like static title screens anyhow. Were you to do something interesting with it, such as a picture of muscle matter that pulsates or something, or a single accumulating blood splatter or ripple, that would make it much more interesting.

Generally, I see a bloody title, and I avoid the game like the plague. It usually means you're looking at a broody or melodramatic game (opener setting? A graveyard, probably!) and that jes' dun' sit raght wit' me.

You win points for it beling stylized, but none of the titles I see up there are very visually appealing. Color clashes (pink + red? nuuuu), blurry effects (2D games + the blur tool = mush), and random blockiness (indistinguishable shapes a good advertisement does not make) befuddle all.

(However I do want to note that the original by Megalomania is by far the best, speaking from a design perspective. It's the most balanced and clean.)

This is how I did my title screen for another game of mine. I used an image off the net, made it transparent, warped it, and used color adjustments to make it look darker, more bloody than it originally was. It is a simple approach to doing blood, you really need to make more light to dark contrasts.. Some transparency is good actually... if blood is smeared onto glass it can be still be seen through, just a thin streak or sheet of blood covers it.

Personally I hate it when people make blood completely opaque, it's 1) Bland, 2) means the blood is sitting there like on a floor, not against a screen of glass. 3) Fake, blood in reality reflects light just like water or koolaid, hell even coffee has a freakin reflection... so take a look around the house at liquids, you can discover a lot about light reflection.
