Question regarding my activation code

I'm not sure this is kosher, So feel free to PM me the answer or tell me I'm out of luck.

I heard that your activation code for XP would work with VX as well.
Unfortunatley, I can't find my activation code for XP, I only have the serial number.

Is there any way to get my activation code, Or am I out of luck?
