Putting a tile above an event

Hi guys,

Is it possible in RMXP to make a tile overlap an event, while keeping the priority of that tile on zero?

while there is no specific way to put a tile of '0' OVER an event... Which I believe is 1 at it's base...

I do have a possible alternative if you are willing to share a screen shot.

Sure, check this out:

Now, a little explanation. I have nine different water charsets, each animated. Four straight edges, each facing one direction, and four diagonal edges, and one solid piece to fill up inside the edges of the water.

Now take a look at the area of the red circle. Right now I have two solid pieces of water there, but before I had two diagonal "southwest" edges. The reason I do not want edges here is because, when you play on the map you will see a tiny bit of dirt between the water and the cliff.

So in order to make it seamless, what I want is to have solid pieces of water there, and the cliff edges overlaying those solid pieces. But the cliff edges cannot be a higher priority, because then when the player gets close to the edges, they will suddenly overlap over the player.

Well then, can't you have it so when the player walks onto the tile, do a set move route, and put the player "Always On Top", and when they walk off the tile, turn it off so they're not always on top? Or something like that anyway...

That way the player SHOULD appear above the tile instead of the other way around, right?

Well That's an easy solution... You just need to reverse what goes where.



What I have in mind is making the Solid water into an autotile .

- place the water Autotile in that location

You know how to make a tileset into an event?

- make the Cliff (Event) on top of the water autotile.

(PM me / or Post) the character set & Tileset and I can show you how to what you want.

cause now that I see what you want... I can say IT IS possible.
 
I've encountered this problem plenty of times, and it bugs me how there is no manual setting of the screen_z. If none of the other options works, or if you prefer a scripted solution, I can retrieve an edit I made in one of my scripts for you.
