Isn't deja vu really just your brain accidentally processing information twice, giving you the feeling you've been some place or done something before? Basically, your brain screws up?

I've had sleep paralysis and it's absofuckinglutely horrible. I didn't get "the hag" or whatever it's called, just generally unable to move and a feeling of darkness (probably because it was, dark).

is "the hag" the person standing over your bed staring into your eyes? if it is then ive had that more than once as a kid

not necessarily but occasionally.
deja vu can also be linked to misplaced memories or vague similarities in dreams.
typically it won't be a specific THING or EVENT that triggers it but rather a sensation--sound, smell, touch. You dreamt of a sound or you remember a smell. You probe your long term memory but it has already been "rewritten" accidentally by your sudden short-term so you think it is actually your long term.

the precise reason behind it is still mostly debatable however.

Yeah. It's when you have sleep parylisis but you see it as a person, or a figure, is holding you down or in the room with you, often kneeling or pressing on your chest and looking into your eyes.

Often occurs after lucid dreaming.
