Although I've never played FFVI, I'm looking forward for this game. I can't believe that it's actually in RPG Maker VX! How did you do all these things (beside graphics, 'cause I think you just edited them from Spriters resource or something like that).
 
This sounds pretty promising. I was going to play ffVI soon, since I've heard nothing but good things about it, but now I think I'll wait until this comes out so I can get a good background story :eek: keep up the good work.
 
I'm a bit surprised that this is being developed in RMVX since there are tile limitations. Are you using maps as parallaxes or what? are they actual tiles? Ain't bad at all. I wish you luck on this!

Ok, so I assume im going to be the first person to talk this down. FFVI is my favorite the best game of all time, so I feel every time I see a fan game I have to make sure it does the original justice. Right off the bat im going to praise this game for NOT BEING A CONTINUATION, thank you for that. However, in some of the videos I see characters like Celes and Cyan, I thought this was in the past? I'll just assume they are test videos.

The game itself looks solid. It looks like the feel of FFVI, but at the same time it IS FFVI, seeing as you replicated all the maps and most of the new characters are just color edits of the originals. The nice thing about most FFVI sequels I have seen is that all the char sets, or most of them, are brand new and not edits. The game looks smooth however so that seems a good aspect. If it is 1000 years in the past, though, why would you replicate the SAME maps? Its clear that in the past the land looked differant rather than the present maps. The war scorched the land and made parts of it devoid. If you wanted to make this an original fangame, you'd re-create SOME of them, but design new ones as well.

As far as the story goes, dude, its 2010. Go ahead and give basic points away. No well in hell am I playing this knowing nothing. If someone hasnt played FFVI and they read into it, that's their fault. You have nothing about the characters, plot or even descriptions of the vids/screens. Gotta give info on something!

Now, since this is a backstory game, im interested in how you are gonna do it/which characters you're gonna use. Alot was explained in FFVI so im interested in this. Every single FFVI fangame has dissapointed me, I hope this one doesnt. It is so far the nicest one Ive seen, the battle system in VX matches up well with the original. Good luck to you, as long as you dont decide to bring magic back in the present time ;D

Anyways, the one thing I've noticed is that on these forums you mention it being done or RPG Maker, but on your website you mention you're remaking it in the ROM, so I'm a little confused on that. You mind clearing it up?

The reason there are the original cast back into the game like cyan and celes, is that I was also planning to do abit more backstories of some of the charcaters set 1 year before the events of the original ffvi game. But most of the game will still be set during the war of the magi. Anyways, I will be planning new characters also.

Also, on this, I'd suggest leaving the FFVI Characters alone if you're basing this in the War of the Magi, they'll have NOTHING to do with it, and just developing there back stories a bit will really take us away from this game, and really won't belong. Just my two cents though.

EDIT: Ignore the ROM VS RM comment, I appear to have read it wrong.

I hope this "huge" city won't lag. Although I'm looking very forward for this game's completion.
BTW: It hurts my eyes when you open a "Magic" command in-battle: abilities' names merges with character status window. You might do somethin' 'bout it. Also: does the magics names must be really named like in old FFs, e.g.: Fire2, Ice3? Fira and Blizzaga sounds much better, I think.
 
Alright, so I for starters, support Fira, Blizzara VS Fire2 and Ice2.

Now, in terms of Magi City, it doesn't really look the be the atmosphere of a City, Tiles used in South Figaro would be more suited I think, this just looks like a large village. Now, as for overall design it looks more like you just pieced parts of Mobliz and Kohiligen togetehr multiple times and actually only made a few corners yourself as well as the Mansion in the middle, this doesn't look that bad, but there is a lot of repeating, and so I'd suggest changing things around. (You don't need 4 Weapon Shops, Item Shops, etc). You have 2 Graveyards, which even in cities they still appear to have only one large one, as well as two farm fields, and two ruined houses around the same location on opposite sides of the map. I'd move the farm fields closer together on one side, and either have only one ruined house, or move them together so they were ruined by the same thing possibly? Other then the repeating, it looks quite good.
 
I think the best option would be a kind of choice in-game: choose between old FF spell naming way and new FF spell naming way.
