Problem with my Speakers. >_>;

So, yeah, I've been having a lot of trouble with my speakers since I moved into my parents' place.  I have a six speaker surround sound, and lately it's like only the front speakers are getting all the sound.  And by all the sound, if I have it at the normal volume, I suddenly get BLASTED.  For awhile, it stopped doing that, and all seemed good, but now not only is it doing it again, but occasionally it'll alternate between working properly and not, and I have NO idea what the problem is.

Anyone have any ideas?

If I'm right, there isn't a main connector to the PC like you're thinking.  Just three plugs that go into the back of the PC (and yes, they're in the right color slots).  The four small speakers (rear and front) plug into the back of the subwoofer, as well as the center speakers (which has the big plug with the two twist things).

I'll try giving the center speakers plug a twist, but I don't think that'll work.

EDIT: Nope.

Make sure your system is configured to use surround sound rather than a two speaker system through either the windows sound settings control panel applet or the proprietary app that your sound card provides, depending on what you use. If it's running on "autodetect" as some newer cards are apt to do, rerun the setup wizard which should be available. If it's an nvidia system in particular and the jacks are shared (ether line in/headphone/speaker or rear/center/front depending on your configuration) that will explain your issue.

I... guess it is?  It's an integrated soundblaster system, and like I said it only started doing this recently in the (2?) years I've had the computer.  I wouldn't know where the hell to locate the config for it anyway; I never looked at it.  :x

Okay, found the config and set it up to my set up.  Though the way the sound plays didn't change, there's actually sound COMING OUT OF the rear and center speakers now, so that's a relief.  Weird that I never had a problem with it up until now. O.o;

You'll need to tweak your fade & balance till you have the volume levels where you want them. It may be called something different on your system, but just adjust the relative volume levels of each speaker till they're equal then use the master volume or the volume knob on your sound system.

Maybe some software you're using is interfering with your sound settings and forgetting to put them back afterward?
