Postality Knights, is it such a bad thing?

At 08/26/2004, the first english patch for rpg maker xp was made, and released, after the lengthy time that it took to make the full translation. The following year, enterbrain had saw the success of the patch, and was making an offical version of it, which what we now know as RPG maker xp today.

The postality knights version is often looked down upon, but if it wasn't there, would there be the offical english version of xp and vx be here today? Would some of the best games that were made with the engine, be made? Would prg maker vx be used?

I think not, but that is for all of you two debate.

I actually think there was going to be an English version anyway, especially after the large piratebase that was RM2k and RM2k3. However, a hacker got there before Enterbrain did.

From the view point of a software developer, I have to say that it is horrid. Not only was it illegally translated, it was also hacked. If I am correct, it also was stolen from the work of the illegal non-cracked translation as well (I think, as there was a translation version that did not have authentication removed). The translation itself is illegal, but not as wrong. I personally think that Eb! would have little quarrel with a simple translation (such as many of the games released on the market), but the fact that Postality was cracked makes it worse.

If you want to lend credence to RMXP being officially translated- Give that credit to the translation that had no crack. It is not mass usage that creates a translation, but purchase/importation from other countries.

Pokemon Diamond/Pearl, as an example, was released in the United Kingdom after so many players imported the US copy of the game.

Cracks are never justification for anything. I'm sure that many of the users of Postality hadn't even purchased RMXP itself.

Is this in the correct forum?

The only real issue with PK is that it wasn't very well translated itself and most english scripts couldn't be used with it. While I'm not sure that enterbrain translated RMXP because of the success of a pirated copy it was PK that first caught my attention and brought me over to XP. I don't use it now because I have the official legal version but PK wasn't bad it just wasn't that great either...Although I heard that its constantly being upgraded and even has more things now than the legal version of XP  although thats just a rumor. I'm not to sure though.

But judging by this topic are you one of the few [[or many!]] people that use the PK version? If so you might want to update that.

ALSO a lot demo's and things aren't compatible with the .dll file that came with PK.

This isn't necessarily a debate though...

It would be kinda like vista. Gets the job done [[kinda]] but is pretty useless in the end of it all.
