Odocoileus virginianus, but I just call him, "Buck." I'm not sure of his real name, as we didn't have much time to chat.
Ven, I can assure you he didn't suffer. He had a brief, but severe case of 'heart-burn' for about 5 seconds before magically transforming from 'beautiful majestic creature' to 'food' (and a nice decoration to hang on my wall).
I'll be smoking up 60# of sausage this weekend. Yum!
When you kill animals when you gout out hunting do you have to pay a charge for anything you take home? I'm only asking because I wonder why people don't eat a piece of humble pie and hunt their own meat to save themselves a shitlot of money every year.
If I lived near such tasty wildlife, i know i would!
Gun licensing? No this is America, they only need licenses to buy nukes.
I've never shot a REAL gun in my life. Only shitty air rifles and my old GAT gun. I'm not sure if this is my memory going misty through 5 years of pot, but I'm sure my late grandma had a little pistol under her pillow. I remember vaguely seeing it but I can't remember that much.
If I would have picked it up I could say I'd held a real gun

Each state is a bit different. In Michigan, you pay $15 for each 'kill tag' for deer, whether you get one or not. There is no additional charge after you make a kill, but each kill must be legally tagged. An average sized deer yields about 40 lbs of meat.
However, unless you butcher the animal yourself, you pay around $60 to have it processed. I do my own.
I do know several people that hunt, trap & grow gardens as their primary food source. They live cheaper, and eat better than most of us.
Although I think if everyone did it, we'd wipe out all of the game.
Berries,
Although skill is part of the equation, there is also patience, strength (they're not light, and you have to get them out of the woods), time & convenience (it takes 15 minutes to go the the store & buy a steak. It takes the time you spend hunting, plus about 4 hours to butcher each deer.) Not to mention the whole 'freezing your butt off' in the woods thing. Then there are a lot of people that don't have the stomach to shoot, or to cut open an animal & remove it's innards. My wife will not park in the garage when I have deer hanging, nor will she eat the meat if she knows it's venison. I have tricked her a few times, and she loved the meal so we know it's psychological. She also hates guns, so I don't think I'll get her out hunting anytime soon.
Stevo, now you got me wondering about hunting in the U.K / Europe. I'll have to go look that up.
