It’s a website that streams police radio chatter live. It’s currently set to constantly scan all police channels in the (entire) Sydney area in an effort to find any active frequencies, which would explain some of the inconsistencies and break-up of the chatter.

Right now I’m listening in on a domestic violence dispute. It’s pretty standard for a middle of the day Monday. Late Friday and Saturday is when things usually pick up. It’s some pretty interesting and riveting stuff to listen to when you’re looking for something to pass the time.

A while back, we had a pretty big brawl between some rival gangs. Hearing the chatter between HQ and the officers on the field was just awesome to listen to. Totally beats watching any one of your favourite action movies (at least for me).

Note to mods: I believe I’m not contravening any law by posting this up. Radio scanners are legally sold in many retail stores over here. It’s only illegal when you act upon the information you hear, and considering most of you guys are situated on the other side of the pond, I don’t think is much of an issue. However, I have no qualms if you still choose to delete the thread for whatever reason you may have.

I mean I live in Oregon (US) and if I was listening to it at night, would it be day there?

its freakin australia, anything goes there compared to america. any of it would be interesting by our standards.

@Minkoff: Knowing the answer to that question is like knowing when, where and how a future crime will be committed. You either get something juicy or you don't. Sometimes I listen through 30min sessions while I'm surfing the net and I get nothing; other times, as soon as I jump on, within moments you hear that a cop is chasing down some punk down an alleyway, only to then emerge a couple minutes later huffing and puffing saying he got the criminal. As I said the best times to tune in would be around late Friday, Saturday, when everyone's finished with school/work for the week.

@Sasik: Bloody ell right you are. As I'm typing this, some dudes are cross-dressing on some random beach (with one described as wearing a little girl outfit) causing a ruckus with other beach goers. haha
