*pokes mic* No worky :(

It seems no matter what type of microphone that I plug into my computer, nothing gets recorded onto the system let alone takes in/replays any sound. I know that I plugged the mic in right, and I tried to go to my control panel to see what I could do to get the microphone to play (ajust volume control and so on), yet all efforts have failed.

The only problem that comes up in my mind is that I have a sub-par sound card, other than that, it feels completely hopeless. Does anyone, having far superior intelligence compared to me, have any ideas as to solve this problem?

I'm having the same problem with some guitar recording hardware and software I bought. Maybe it's just the mic that's screwed?

I can't get mine to play through the speakers... Only the headphones that connect to the hardware. I can have one or the other. Thing is, how do I know if it's my soundcard?

Well don't we have something in common, eh? The mic I recently purchased should be pretty updated, so I don't think that's the problem in my case.

Open your Volume settings for Windows, go to Properties, click Recording, press OK, and make sure the Check Box underneath the Microphone slider, and make sure the Slider is up to the top.

Selecting Microphone is something many people don't notice.

if the above doesn't work then have a look in your device manager (right click my computer>manage>device manager) and see if the microphone has drivers and is recognised.. if not, get the truster PC drivers out and start intalling

Awesome Bro

Nexs points out the usual suspect here (The lack of drivers)

Although it could be a couple of other things:

1. Your sound card has burnt out (The mic feed)

2. If it's a bog standard mic (The ones that have a stand and are usually bage) then they do break quite easily. Hense the reason they're so cheap.

I had a similar problem on my last PC and it was the sound card. So I thought I'd throw that in there (Even though the chances are slim).

Thanks, I'll give those a try when I get off this school computer.

Yeah I can't seem to select microphone, nor does it seem to have any drivers that recognize it. So where do I get the driver to install it?

It should have come with a disk to install them. If it didn't, search the mic model + drivers on google.

The one I have came free with a purchase of this karaoke/music editing software called "My Voice", and that didn't really come with any instructions for installation.

What type soundcard..oddly..some cards don't even properly support recording..my dad had a built in sound card on his work PC and it wouldn't record..put in a new cheap Soundblaster..worked fine..

well the Thread Starter is Banned so that Shouldnot be necessary to post here anymore.

Well I'm back, and I'm trying to go with the "lack of drivers" explanation, but I don't really understand where to install such drivers.

well what sort of a mic is it? look it up on the manufacturer's website. and if that doesn't work then do the following:
control panel>sounds and audio devices> then click on the tabs and make sure that all the recording devices are set to the right microphone. if the mic doesn't appear in the drop box then you havent got the drivers for it
