pokemon to train

What are some good pokemon to train early on in Pokemon Emerald? I just beat the second gym leader, but I only have two good pokemon, swampert and kadabra. I want to train more, but I don't want to put a lot of time into a pokemon that never becomes pretty good. Suggest some pokemon that I should catch and train at this point in the game.

emerald? you can catch Ralts really early on, in the route next to petalburg. he's really rare but totally worth it to catch one early on.

shroomish are also pretty common and breloom's a motherfucker dude.

Get a Bellsprout and don't evolve it. Keep it a Bellsprout forever.

1 problem though. He's playing emerald, that game ain't cool because it doesn't have Bellsprout.
