Pokemon Buildings

I've been trying to improve my pixeling skills, and I'm working on a tileset for my new project, Pokemon Adventure.  http://www.rmxp.org/forums/index.php?topic=33713.0

Anyway, here are some of the buildings I've made to go with BloodRage's tileset.

The first is a pagoda-inspired house.  I've realized that it's a bit small compared to other buildings in the tileset, so I'll have to fix that.  As for the Pokemon Center and Pokemart, I used the Ruby/Sapphire ones as guides, and tried to be original and make them look good.  I think the Pokemart feels a bit industrial, so I might try to soften it up a bit.  I added an alternate version of the Pokemon Center.  Let me know which you like better.

Any *constructive* criticism would be greatly appreciated.

well I like the mart. It looks original I guess, but it looks like it is about to close... The window is quite small. The Pokemon Center looks almost typical. I completely dislike the pagoda, the roof looks weird. You could also make it bigger if you want, but size isn't the problem.

I will have to agree with Shadowball on the Mart, but I seriously love the Pokemon Center. It's almost the same as the ones in Pokemon games, just a little bigger + some other minor changes, which makes it look really nice (better than the ones in Pokemon games).

The Pagoda building would have to be bigger, and that roof needs shading! It's just really weird to look at it like this, because the roof is curved inwards. This should be visable with the shading, which it isn't. So I suggest you give it a more gradient-ish shade. Not too gradient, of course, that would make the building look completely off.

awesome... love the poke mart!

the pagoda house... I think you need to sprite the rear roof too, since the perspective shoud be 3/4 from above, on your tileset, it looks like it's viewed from the front...

Heh, well it seems that the Pokemart and Pokemon center are being pretty well received, while the pagoda is a unanimous thumbs down.  That's about what I expected.  I'll definitely try to incorporate your suggestions.

The Padoga would look much better if you shaded and made it the same size as the other buildings.
Though the Mart could use a little work.
They look very cute.
Good job!

It's weird, cause I really like the pagoda, although it's not shaded much. It's not as much a pagoda as it's a house with a bent roof, but it looks cool to me. Of couse, you could still make it 'better'/different, or make a larger version... or a version that has multiple stories so that it's a pagoda tower (wouldn't that be cool? - and then each level has a pokémon trainer who attacks with different types of Pokémon, so it'd serve as some sort of a Gym...)

No, I must resist the temptation to make a Pokémon game.

I think the problem with the pagoda is that there's no real sense of shape there. There aren't individual tiles, and the sections don't really divide the roof fully anyway. The eaves just kind of slope back into the house. Real pagodas are actually a lot more complicated.

An excellent pixel example can be found in this screenshot of the original Street Fighter. Note how the tiles overlap, the detail of the eaves, and the detail of the top of the ridge.

Yeah, I want to add tiles to the pagoda roof, and the idea of a tower is definitely in the works.  The thing is, my skills aren't very advanced and I have no idea where to even begin with tiles.

I'm not gonna parrot everyone else about the pagoda. You know what needs to be done, right?
This is really, really well-done so far. Maybe things are a bit skewed because I'm just a coolie-grade spriter, though. My one issue would have to be the edges of the Mart walls; they're round, but the roof's square. Though architecturally possible, it looks a bit odd.  You can fix it or leave it; there's not likely to be much difference in the accolades you'll be getting either way.

I love the idea of an RMXP-sized Pokemon game. Because let's face it, we're all tired of seeing your standard Pokemon-kit RPG's 16-bit GBA graphics in 640x480 resolution when your standard game has twice the bittage (with the potential for much higher resolution, though few choose to use it.) This is the next logical step to bring Pokemon games to RMXP in earnest, and it looks great.

For all it counts, I'm giving you a big thumbs-up. Keep up the awesome!

Thanks for the advice guys.  I'm gonna be adding a few more of the buildings I've been working on, and I'm gonna take down the Pagoda for now.  Like Gearpunk said, I'm basically getting the same feedback over and over.  I'll repost it when I've updated it.

I'm also toying with the concept of a different Pokecenter and Pokemart for each city.  After all, they're all different in the anime, and that's what I'm trying to mirror here.

how do i download off this site ???
