Poisionous Space shuttle?

My grandma was just talking to me about something on the news about a Poisonous space shuttle in outer space and its slowly starting to come to earth. She said something about another Space Shuttle has to land in earth, then they are going to "Shoot" the Poison-infested one down. All of this stuff was suppose to happen Today/night. Could someone give me more details or a link?

I was thinking if this stuff is poisonous, Why are we shooting it down? Isn't it going to just crash and spread the poison on earth even faster?

Last thing I heard was it was supposed to be shot down today. That window is closing fast. But they say if the weather is bad that they could do it tomorrow.

Actually I figured this was more up to date, so I'd leave it open (hence why I had not closed this and bumped the other).  I had typed more but I must have deleted over it when I pasted the link and didn't notice, my mistake.
The intent was to show more information about it, rather than replace.

Its not simply a public service save the world from crashing satellite scenario.  This is a non-aggressive show of strength.  The US is showing off that it has the capability to shoot down something in orbit (satellite) with a ground based missile.  Considering the growing number of nations beginning deployment of their own spy satellites its not surprising this is taking high profile interest.

That is an interesting perspective, Sophist.  In that light, it will be really, really funny if they miss... er yeah, like they always do when they say they're going to use some missiles to hit a precision target (Baghdad, anyone?)

It's already been done.

They wouldn't run that risk by attracting publicity to it were they not sure they could hit it.  Like I said its subtle diplomacy. The US, who changed the game with the eye in the sky, have now changed it again by demonstrating that they can poke a sky eye if they feel like it.

Except that when you poke someone's eye, it doesn't explode to tiny bits. Unless you have supra human poking abilities, that is, the likes Uncle Sam has.

Well good job they destroyed it anyway. I guess from time to time things like this happen alot, we just don't get wind of all of them. I read on some forum about someone predicting they had a dream about this event and it hit in two pieces and everyone died. How cheery we can be in the face of danger :)

Amazing "computer simulation" of the event there, three cheers for the AP's brilliant CG team. :)  Also, I have to laugh just a little bit at the guy commenting about blowing it up to prevent anyone getting at its 'sensitive technology'.  We're talking about an old spy satellite from, what, the 80s?  It's probably less powerful than a cell-phone with a telescope taped to it :/
