PocketDev - A refreshing Pokemon Starter Kit

PocketDev is a currently work in progress Pokemon Starter Kit for RPG Maker XP. It brings a refreshing new look to Pokemon games with art inspired around the Diamond/Pearl games. Features will include:

• Custom made tilesets either ripped/frankensprited or made from scratch.
• Core menus readily scripted.
• Custom battle system based from Diamond/Pearl.
• An easy-to-manage/create Pokemon system.
• Custom character sets and diverse environments
• Complete Diamond/Pearl music midi collection
• Clock system.

Other features will be planned and added when possible, but first i'm focusing on graphics and scripts.

The main goal for this starter kit is to create an environment with the feel of Diamond/Pearl while retaining the simplistic 2D graphics of previous games. Any constructive criticism is welcome, also looking for people to help if anyone is interested.

The following screenshots showcase some reconstructions of places in Pokemon Diamond. Most is either ripped or made by me but credits go to Spriters Resource for great help in their sprite sheets.

Outside graphics are cute, inside are grotty.

What progress have you made? A lot of people aspire to make pokemon starter kits, but they get scrapped because the creators get bored. How good are you at scripting?

Hi, yeah, the inside are exactly the same as the Diamond ones. I could use Emerald/Ruby/Sapphire interiors instead, i'm not sure...

Also, i'm a pretty good scripter, also a programmer, i know C/C++, C#, VB, BASIC, PHP, HTML, ASP, ActionScript, Ruby, LUA, Python and a bunch of others. I've released a few scripts previously.

My progress so far is that i've written most of the underlying Pokemon code (the code for creating, managing, controlling etc). And i'll stick to the project and hopefully someone will give me a helping hand

I thinks i've seen Pokemon SDK before.
It's full option to make and edit without use RMXP.

but it's developed by RMXP.

@plugz:  There is a pokemon SDK, but not a Diamond/Pearl one.

Good luck on this DeadlyDan.  So far it's looking good.  Are the insides of Diamond/Pearl really that lacking in shadows on the inside?

Also, make sure to use the current pokemon SDK as a form of inspiration and whatnot.  They have a lot of the pokemon scripting down, although not anything Diamond/Pearl.  Not too sure if the guy who made it allows people to rewrite it, but I'd think so.

I'd help with ripping and graphics editing if I wasn't busy right now with other things.  When I'm free and if you still need help I'll let you know.  :thumb:

Awesome, well, the stuff i had to work with wasn't that great, so i've been thinking about just making custom interiors based on Emerald/Fire/Ruby ones.

I want to script it myself, i like to script in a very clean and manageable way, and personally think i can do a better job of it :P

I'd love for you to help if you could, do you have xfire?

Thats the same tileset im using, i formatted it for RMXP but i cant get the water right to save my life...
