Please don't hurt me help me. NTitle error / Vista

Hey everyone, now I know this topic has been beaten to death but here I go.

Everytime I run RPG XP or VX I get the "Failed to obtain serial from NTitle Server" message. I am running Vista like many other upset PC users. I tried all the advice given in the many, many forums with this subject and all point to run as administrator or even remove all security and make sure that all users have full control on the program files. I have done all of this even reinstalled twice and followed the same process. I am connected to the internet so that can't be the problem, i even changed the PL.dll file security as well. But still same message even though i am running as administrator. If anyone can help me I'd greatly appreciate it.

Make sure the pc you're trying to run it on is connected to the internet, as well. Firewalls could easily be the problem also. Vista's usually pretty good about letting programs go as long as you don't block them in the first place. Just rummage through your virus protection and make sure you don't have it blocking the program. Hope you can get it up and running soon.

Good luck!

I've also heard about trying to run in Compatibility Mode for Windows XP SP2.

Though honestly, I never needed to do anything to run my RMXP in Vista. I just run and it works o.o; no compat mode, no administrator.

This depends on when a person got Vista. Most now don't need it. Like I myself can play any XP, PC game with out having to do it; but sometimes vista is just vista.

I had to run VX as Admin. With XP, I just had to set it to run in compatability mode with XP. I don't know why, but Vista still asks me to okay the program before it'll run. But VX runs perfectly. Good thing I use VX now.

Is this topic resolved yet? Or has he not been on?

Hm the trouble is Ive searched through hundreds of forums and they all told me what your telling me and i've double checked all of them. All except the virus protection one not sure about that but if that's not the case which i'm mostly sure it isn't what can I do? Can it be a corrupt version? All forums with this problem have the same answers and i've tried them all that's why Im stumped.

Also I download RPG maker VX and it gives me the same error message upon startup. IE "failed to obtain serial..." I was under the impression that this version was made for Vista and therefor shouldnt have any issues. If im getting the same error what do I do? Should I follow the same procedure to try and fix the XP version as well?

Have you tried re-downloading the file? I doubt this will work as it would tell you it was corrupt or not. Also where did you download it from; I hope not a third party site.

I downloaded my trial version from download.com. But the best place is straight from the website. That could be your problem... have you ever had problems with internet accessible applications not working in the past? If so, then I'd really give your virus protection a good look through. Since you have Vista, you might have some really heavy duty program protection, which in most cases, won't allow unknown programs to connect to the internet. And since both of the programs do the same thing, I honestly think it's because you're virus protection is blocking it from connecting.

If you don't know how to check that, let us know. It all depends on what kind of protection you have. I've noticed that a lot of people have no idea what their virus software is, or how to access it. If you're one of them, just say so, we're here to help.

P.s. Forget XP, go VX. It's the newest version, and even though some of the mapping looks different than what you may be used to, the program is much better, and eventually XP will be obsolete anyway. It's like using RM2k instead of RM2k3. No one does that. They might use the resources, but not the maker. If you REALLY can't live without the XP RTP, then just convert the stuff you need. Sorry... that's off topic, I know.

P.p.s. I haven't seen any posts from you about trying to run it in Compatability mode with Windows XP. Really, try that. I had to do it to get mine to work as well. Just right click and hit properties. NOT on the shortcut. On the actual .exe file within your program files.

You also started out knowing nothing, Orachii. Give the newcomers a chance to learn something and try their hand at the program before you knock them down. That's why this forum has so many assholes in it. They were treated like dirt when they started, and so they treat the new guys like dirt as well.

You just read it wrong, hell my first game sucked. I'm not saying it is not possible to create "the perfect" game the first time, but most don't. And I was once a member of gamingw.net so I know plenty of ass holes.
